Just got this in an email. Searched, so I don't think it's a repost.

THE BEST COMEBACK LINE EVER!

Marine Corp's General Reinwald was interviewed on the
radio the other day and you have to read his reply to
the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and
children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws
you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best
comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of
National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female
broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who
was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his
military installation.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to
teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL REINWALD:
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery,
and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL REINWALD:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the
rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous
activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL REINWALD:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle
discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL REINWALD:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but
you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.

You gotta love the Marines!

Made me laugh. Hope you enjoy.

Technically, he would be teaching them to be accurate and efficient killers, not violent ones. The violent killers would be the ones who have no marksman skills whatsoever so they just shoot all over the place. But my hat's off to that guy for saying that on public radio. She was probably so astounded that he said that on the air that she didn't know what to do.

First, knowing how to shoot doesn't make someone a potential killer. In the U.P., well over half the population of 300,000 probably knows how to load, aim, and fire a rifle, yet the murder rate up here is less than three per year.

That being said, I smelled internet hoax as soon as I read this. And you know what? http://www.snopes.com/military/reinwald.htm

I think George Carlin and Robin Williams said that while they were practicing how to take over your phone line by getting you to press *304 and becoming sterile by drinking Mountain Dew.

I hate to be a killjoy . . .
but doesn't anyone search stuff before they pass it around as fact?
Simple Google search on a topic, include the term "internet hoax" and you'll quickly find out. This works for any other story or plea for money you get because somebody mass emails you.
It's funny. A totally irresponsible slam on a great organization (NPR)
And complete bull****.
Sorry.

IMHO, the best "true" comeback line is this:

In 1966, DeGaulle asked that all American soldiers be removed from France.

To which, U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk reportedly asked:

Does that include the dead Americans in military cemeteries as well?"

Well, I hate to be a killjoy, but I already said that.

But yes, I agree that the "joke" has an unnecessary negative slant against NPR, and I'm not just saying that because I happen to WORK for NPR...

:xpshame:

my bad, I read the first sentence of your post and skimmed past the second.

I was annoyed because, given the distribution pattern, and the ELABORATE nature of the "transcript" . . . it's not truly a "joke"; it's meant to deceive in a particular way on a particular subject.

I dunno what the hell it is. Seems like an attempt at a joke (the "you're equipped to be a prostitute" part), a take on gun control, and a slam on NPR (for suggesting that teaching children to shoot makes them dangerous, an obvious potshot at the so-called "liberal" slant NPR has). Well, whatever, can't get too much into it before it turns political. In any case, it's a good lesson on believing everything that's passed through your email box (remember the "Right on, Andy Rooney!" post?).

Simply posted a joke. Didn't mean to offend anyone (well someone is always offended). Didn't say it was real, just funny. That's why it's not in the political forum.

While it may be a joke/hoax, there IS some truth behind it... The "General" does make a good point...
