This past weekend, I finally got the Big-Bore Thunderbird on a prepped track. I already updated my signature to reflect my new personal best E.T.

Saturday, the car and I butted heads and didn't work well together. It was Test and Tune day and I was able to make 6 passes with the car. The car was running pretty consistent 13.2 - 13.0 @ 104 - 105 MPH. I found out with the air bags in the springs that I could not load up on the TC like I was able to without the air bags. Loading up on the TC, the brakes could not hold the car. Most of my passes were trying to figure out what would work for me. On my 6th and final pass, I ran a new short lived PB of 12.83 @ 104 MPH launching at idle with a 1.782 60ft.

I wasn't mad at the car, but I wasn't happy with how things went on Saturday, so I entered the Street Legal class on Sunday to get some more tuning in. Things went better for me as I came out with a 12.90 @ 106 MPH with a 1.976 60ft in my first qualifying pass. I lowered the PSI of the front tires a bit as the TC was pushing the car a bit on me. 2nd pass, I loaded the TC up to 1500 RPM and the brakes were able to hold the car. The car ran a 12.89 @ 106 MPH with a 1.899 60 ft.

The racing is bracket racing so I dialed in at 12.75 as I figured the brakes would hold the TC loaded @ 2000 RPM and no other changes and figured that the 12.75 would be pretty close. I was wrong, the car ran 12.71 @ 106 MPH with 1.781 60ft. I got a bit of break as the other guy broke out worse than I did, so I lived another round. The next round, I did not make any changes to the car however I over thought things and mis-calculated my dial-in. The car ran a 12.74 @ 106 with a 1.767 60ft on a 12.80 dial-in.

I left the track on Sunday much happier than I did on Saturday. I know there is more in the car yet as there is some tweaking to be done to get that 60 ft down.

I will post videos later on after I get them into an easier viewing format.

I'm amazed you ran a 13 with just bolt ons at such a high elevation. What kinda bolt ons do you have? My car and/or me suck because my best ever is in the 14s, last time I got an ET it was a mid 15 :( Congrats man that is freaking awesome about the 12s!!

Which car are you asking about?

The bolt-on car is my 2005 Mustang GT.

JLT CAI( Really a waste mod )
FRPP CMCV Deletes
SCT X-Cal 2
FRPP X-Pipe
SLP LM Axleback
MGW STS
LRP Spydershaft Driveshaft
26x9x17 Mickey Thompson ET Street slicks

The Thunderbird is not a bolt on car. The only original parts in the drivetrain is the airbox and the halfshafts. Everything else is upgraded or aftermarket.

What's the elevation there??

And so your telling me I'm still faster? ;)
You are still faster and quicker...

SIR's Elevation is 1654 Ft above Sea Level.

Just incase you missed the ;) nice numbers i might have missed it but what kind of tires are you running and what does the car weigh?
Toyo Front Runners( 25x4x15 ), I bought them from JL a long time ago...
M&H Racemaster Cheater Slicks( 26x10.5x15 ), They have around 30 passes on them.

I haven't weighed the car in a long time and not in track form so I have no clue...

I don't believe in Dyno's and the numbers they produce, it is more important that the car is fun and runs well. That said, the car made 294 RWHP, 320 RWTQ when it was dyno-tuned in Orange on a Mustang Dyno, uncorrected. The temp was over 95 and 100% humidity, that I remember.

i hear what you say about dyno #'s.....although, being a man of science, I feel they are important when a dyno is properly calibrated and the dyno uses the correct correction-factors and things aren't skewed by the dyno-operator's mistakes/errors....quantitative analysis has made the world come a long way :)

but anyways, what are your shift points on that badboy?

I am running the Dyno-Tune from Dan, JL and KD from 2006. I knew what they were at one time but I honestly can't remember now. I would guess around 6500 RPM as that is what the limiter is still set at.

Congrats are in order.

Those are very good passes considering the DA. Its a possibility that the car could run very low 12's even high 11's on the right track and right conditions.

Stay after it. Better air is heading your way come fall.

Well, I made it to the track today. The track closes today for the year so I would have to take the car South to get some more runs in. I have been looking into it...

Back on to today. The DA was anywhere from 1580 - 1780 FT above sea level. That was the good part, the bad part was a 30 MPH head wind, gusting up to 50 MPH. The weather was cloudy and a high potential of rain.

That all said, I was really hoping for a new PB, but it didn't happen today. Very close as I ran a 12.75 @ 105 for today's best.

I am planning on taking the car back down to Orange, Texas. Hopefuly between the end of 2009 and before August 2010. I am going to have it's race tune retuned for VP C10 Unleaded Racing fuel. I have a few things that I would like to have the guys down there do.
