Will I pick anything up by switching from the airbox and panel filter to a much larger cone paper filter? They have them at the Pepboys by my house for only $20. I know the K&N cones perform better than the paper but I want to stay away from the oil and MAF problems. Thanks.

Not really, unless you got an "airbox" made to fit a paper cone. Like the ones on 96 and up Mustangs. (Or a home made shroud)

If you didn't do that you'd be getting a little more air, but the temperature of that air would be much higher than if you let it be.

you need an airbox so that the filter is not injesting hot engine air. If you just hang a cone on the end, it will defeat the purpose. Airboxes work best, heat shields are next best thing. Here is my 95 lx with a 2001 gt airbox, lightning maf, cone filter inside.
