How rare are black MN-12's?

I only recall seeing one in person - a 95 Cougar a few years ago. And now I'm watching an old series from 2003 - six feet under - and one of the characters is driving a black 95 T-Bird V8. It's been on several episodes, which is the most I've seen any MN-12 on TV.

I'm used to seeing two shades of white, laser red, green on MN-12' T-Birds. Cougars have a few unique colors. I vaguely recall seeing a black turbo coupe online, but black also seems rare for the Fox-bodies.

Post 'em if you got 'em!

1991 LS 5.0, last year before I started the tear down. There are a decent number of Black SCs and I've seen many Cougars over the years, although not as many as the white, green, and champagne colors

Does a black FN10 count? Most of the 2nd gens that I've seen are black, not just my own. There is at least 1 other down the road from me (although it hasn't moved in a while).

No, just MN-12's, there are tons of black FN10's. And just 94 and up, those are the years I'm mainly referring to not seeing many of.

Now that I think of it, the guy that bought my '95 had a black '96 T-Bird.

All 30,000 2nd gen FN10s, compared to the 435,000 2nd gen MN12s? I think your definition of "tons" is a little different than everyone else's........

I’d agree with him that a larger chunk of that 30,000 are black than the ratio of MN12s, but Marks didn’t have as broad of a color palette and black is simply more popular on Luxury cars a rule.

Still, black has got to be in the top 5 most common MN12 colors, and especially so for 94-97s. If there were a year range I’ve observed Black being less common it would be on 89-93 LXs and LSs(it’s pretty common on SCs and early XR7s though)

Also off the top of my head members who have or had black MN12s:

Vicrattlehead
Dirtybird46
Miller1995
Stinger1987
Rayo
Grog6
Zep5.0
Black Cat
Blackcat
Smokymance
Shadow
Shadowdragon
Cougarguy04
Lobo
Blown38
SR71Blackbird
Platoribs

and many others I’m surely forgetting or can’t remember the handles of.

Oh and the MN12 Cougar I nearly bought before mine was a black 96 with the Bostonian top (yuck)

I meant to say there are tons of black FN-10's, not just FN-10's.

I guess it's been a long time since MN-12's regularly roamed the streets, so I've just forgotten about any black ones I've seen.

That's an easier to understand statement. :)

Truth be told, out of all the 1995 FN10s, over 1/3 were opal, pearl or white. 1/4 were black, with the remainder distributed among 10 variations of red, blue, green etc. 1995 Colors

Of the 98s, again we see that over 1/3 were white or pearl and about 1/4 were black. 1998 Build

Working at a Lincoln Mercury dealership in the really 2000's we saw a lot of FN10s. Most wear pearl white or a similar Red to the MN12 of the later years. I'm not sure we ever had a Black one. Maybe an LSC.

I don’t think it is particularly rare, I’ve seen tons of 94-97s in black.probably varies region to region though, I imagine black isn’t a popular choice in the sunbelt.
Yah.

Anyone who buys a black car for Louisiana or Texas or even Nevada or New Mexico is a masochist and a sadist, and should not be permitted out in polite company. 😝
