I have an extra mirror switch with a blue LED in it from a 96-97. all wired up ready to plug in.

I'll even throw in an extra wire to plug directly into the empty pin slot on the harness.

I'm not sure what the switches would sell for normally, so I guess make me an offer, if it's reasonable I'll say "sold" :)

I can also get door lock and window switches for anyone interested.

No, however the way the internals are set up, you'd almost think it was designed to have a light inside. There's a thread out there that details how it's done but you need some junkyard parts to make it work because you need to adapt the switch for the ILL circuit.

So you have to add an LED back there? How would one go about making it light up in the stock green? Would you happen to have a link for what you described?

Yeah the circuit is already setup, just add a resistor, prong, and a 3mm LED.

If you can be patient for a couple of days I'm going to do a write up on how to do the switches and mirror switch. I just happened to have an extra mirror switch and stuck an LED in it in case someone just wanted to buy one.

If you want to do a stock green one I can do that too, I have a bunch of extra green LEDs and resistors from the switches, but if you want to do it yourself I can send you a green LED, resistor and extra prong for the switch. I just mailed out a prong and wire for terminator today. might as well help out where I can since I went tot he wreckers and grabbed some switches and have a few extra parts now.

My guess is they didn't put lights in it to save cost because really how often are you using that switch and needing to see where it is in the dark.... I bet leaving out that LED, resistor, prong and labour they saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This is the switch for the outside rear view mirrors? Will it fit a 1991 Cougar?

And if it does, how much for it?

Thanks!

Someone else will have to chime in on weather it would fit a 91, but if it does, make me an offer, I really honestly don't know where to start.

Keep in mind also, I'm in Canada, so shipping might be a little more expensive than from US to US. I will however find the smallest/cheapest possible means to ship.

I'm looking at heading to the wreckers and getting more switches to do this with, for those who can't do it themselves.

I gotta do something, I'm "unemployed" at the moment. I work a little bit on the side, but it's nowhere even remotely close to my regular pay cheques..... even then I was still on the low side of the tax bracket :D

I don't think it will fit a 91 because the 89-93 interiors are completely different from the 94-97 interiors. It will definitely fit 94+ cars.

Then keep me in mind when you do the write up.

I'll be switch scarfing from a 1992 TBird tomorrow, so that I can get Sweetie's mirrors and windows working right. Might also scarf a speaker or two out (passenger door speaker is blown, apparently).

As an electronics guy, I can safely say that changing LED color only requires a change in the LED itself and in the current limiting resistor (and not always at that!)

As long as you can find one in your desired color that mounts the same way ... and today, if I check with DigiKey (the wire head's bible!), then yes, you can ;)

yes red LEDs are very easily possible. I just need to buy some, I'll do it if your serious, but it will take a little time for me to recieve the red 3mm LEDs..... about 8 days from payment to recieving.

XR7.... thats the post :D

what do the 89-93 switches look like?? I'm thinking of going to the wreckers today and grabbing some switches, I'm not so good with determining year by look of the car, so I don't know what switches to look for other than the 96 style switches.

The easiest way to determine the 89-93 from the 94-97s is the front. The older cars have more square headlamps and the bird is on the hood:

89-93:

94-95:

96-97:

ahh....see the first two I wouldn't know what years they are just seeing them at the wreckers.....thanks, that helps now :)

the 94-97 switches are the same?

I'm gearing up to go down to the wreckers and pickup some stuff if they don't want to overcharge me.....and whatever fits in my many pockets. ;)

As far as I know they're the same, the part number on the switch from my 97 indicated it was a 94 switch (F4xx....).

BTW, if you find a 94+ car with the gray interior, I've been trying to find the speed nut (the plastic snap-on thing) that holds the right kick panel on under the passenger dash. I lost mine a while ago and it rattles as I drive.

oh... I wish I had seen this before I went.

I will be going back sometime again I'm sure, they do have some grey interior cars there. depends on the shade I guess. It's hard to get around there in the winter.

So I picked up 3 sets of door switches for 96/97 and whatever else they will fit, I have 3 or 4 mirror switches, and a defrost switch as well as an SATC.

I'm gonna start modding them.

this switch is sold. I have 2 more unmodified as of yet. if anyone wants another blue one I can do it quickly, a custom colour will take longer because I have to order the LEDs.
