The XX lost most of its forward go last weekend. It happened without any warning that I was aware of. Reverse seems to work just as good as ever, so right away I assumed a set of clutches had cashed it in and prepared to either get elbows deep in it or find a replacement 4r70w.

Got the trans out and saw this:

Snapped like a frickin bean.

Now, I am 99% sure this is the problem. No stator function = very little torque multiplication inside converter = very little forward go in heavy car. My 1% doubt lies only with the fact that Reverse still feels fine...I even drove back home from the grocery that day in Reverse with no problems (just dumb stares from the other drivers on the road, no rural road stuff, all in-town 25mph speed limit travels) just to get home.
The Tbird also handles great in Reverse btw. I wasn't scared.

Thoughts?

It happens is all I can tell you, no real way to prevent it maybe bad machining or poor material constructions hard to say. It's not common but I have seen it quite a few times.
