what's up with this? could it be a sign of air in cooling system? i'm getting temp. flucuations as well. i replaced t-stat a week or so ago and the housing didn't seal real well and it's leaking some from there. could air get in there too?

Anywhere coolant can get out, air can get in. Bubbles most certainly cause fluctuations in the temp sensor readings, it reads from the sender right up where the bubble would be, by the bleeder. I would seal everything up really good and then check to see what symptoms you have.

I'm assuming that you probably drained some or all of the coolant when you changed the t-stat? If you did and got air in the radiator, it may take a bit to get flushed out of the system. Depends on how big the bubbles are. I've always had that issue when I drain and refill the system though. Could also be the headgaskets, wouldn't hurt to check that too. The real question is was it doing it BEFORE you changed the tstat out?

no, it was going ok before the t-stat changed. started just recently, it ran pretty real well w/ the new t-stat for a while. i'm getting it diagnosed tomorrow. i'm hoping it's just a big air bubble, but i'm preparing for the worst :(

Good luck! I wish you the best. If the bubbles in the overtank resemble violently boiling water you blew a head gasket. I hope it isn't that!

i have my fingers crossed, but with the cold air blowing out of the heater and the rough idle on start up it's not looking so good. but who knows, maybe it's just an air bubble, and bad spark plugs....:) i feel a little better about it know that i've found another shop to fix them if they turn out to be the problem. instead of 1100-1600 bucks this guy's only $800 with the same warrenty on the work.
