Or maybe......

something like this:

It's a bit more work and expense...but sort of fun. :p

You can get one....

from:

http://www.classic-designconcepts.com/

It's an electric pop-open door operated
from the driver's seat. It's a kit intended
for the Mustang, so the inner part of the hole
where the stock gas door sits needs to be
ground out a bit with a die grinder. But that's
the only mod during installation you have to make
beyond what's needed to install it in the Mustang.
Oh, and I had mine anodized. Sorry I don't have
any more photo's at the moment.

Yea i have been looking at them and can only find a silver ones. I think silver on a black car might look tacky. Cuz my rims are just painted silver so it wont match. So i saw some flat black ones but they were ulgy designs. How much does it cost to anodized it?

That is SWEET.....

I went to that link and found it,which one did you get,the 94-98 or the 99-01?295 is a little high compared to the 99 Bullit one but it looks so much cleaner. Thanks for the link and pic.

The tech guys at CDC suggested....

the '99-'01 kit as the door was a bit flatter and
more closely matched the 'Bird's body.

It cost me $25.00 to get it polished at a chrome
plating outfit and $60.00 to get it anodized.

Also, if you do it - pick up an oem orange fuel
door push button like found on a '95 'Bird from
Ford parts - makes the install look a bit
more "factory". :p

Let us know if you do it!

Hmmm....perhaps I shouldn't brag that I have a Bullitt cap here that I bought when they were still only $20? :D

Stupid Ford bean counters!

The only thing I can't decide is whether to leave it silver or paint it white to match the car...????

Ahhh.....but SW

can you sit in your 'Bird and impress the station weasel
selling pop from behind the counter by having your Bullitt
door pop open before you get out of the car......? LOL

Good point MajorThom, but I spend over $300 less than you. :D

My car is bright white, not pearl white. My wheels are chrome, so I may polish it and go that route.

Yeah, you got me there.....

it's about the only mod I've made where I had second thoughts
about the cost....darned frustrating though, to get an idea
for a mod you know doesn't make a whole lot of sense.....but
that you just can't walk away from.......

No , you can't open it....

"by hand". The "opening lever" is purely for looks.
The design has an electrically operated cable that
trips the release mechanism which, when activated,
allows the door to pop upwards. In an emergency
however, you can access the cable in the trunk to trip
the release mechanism - sort of like the Ford
design incorporated into their power fuel doors.

Does anyone know where you can get a non-electric one?

I love that anodized look MagerThom
As far as I'm aware the CDC kit and the Bullitt doors
are our only two options. You could rig the CDC design
to operate "manually", but it would require opening the
trunk in order to pull the cable each time you wanted
to pop the door open.

Two more points for consideration.....

at least with respect to the CDC design:

1) the finish of the aluminum, though relatively smooth,
definitely has a less than polished look to it out
of the box.

2) the aluminum is fairly "soft" and shows rubs and light
scrapes relatively easily - so, if you plan on a polished
finish, you might want to consider some form of a
protective clear coat.....just a thought.

Thanks everyone for your compliments....I really did it because
I was tired of seeing the Mustang guys getting all the after
market goodies......! :p
