First i gotta say when this started. When i first got my bird, 2 year back someone hit me in the drivers front wheel area, enough to need all new suspension components/tie rod/coil/strut/wheel etc...along with the steering rack and basically the whole front end.

Now, ever since then from time to time (either in the hot...or cold it seems) i get this buzzing noise at idle, sounds like a heat shield, like metal vibrating over something that's shaking, simply a buzzz, buzz, buz, buz noise. At idle, P, this happens, and when i rev the engine even just 100rpms this noise disappears, it doesn't get louder, it just stops.

In the past 2 weeks i've noticed that now my idle needle/gauge will stick alittle. If i rev it to 1500 from 800, it will stick alittle at 1300-1400 then drop back down to 800rpms...just for a second or two. This buzzing noise is coming from behind the engine, near the passenger firewall/throttle body area, almost sounds like it's behind the tb. Is their a sensor that can go bad and make that noise..? Like the idle air control thing, or maybe an egr valve...i don't know what they do..?

Take note, this has been happening on and off for the past almost 2 years, i asked my mechanic and he said if nothing happened by now, it's a very small problem. What the hell could this buzzing be, it gets annoying cause you can hear it from 5 feet away from the car even with the hood closed.

PS the throttle plate is clean, it's not sticking at all causing the needle/engine to stick at differant rpms.

BTW i thought long ago that something in the tranny was buzzing, but that's not the case...i had the tranny replaced with a rebuilt one, and this buzz obviously has nothing to do with the tranny.

Lol..the first tranny blew, it's not that i changed the tranny for a stupid buzzing noise.haha.

Just a guess, but you might have a loose heat shield around your catalytic converters causing the buzzing.

Please i hope it is that, but the thing i know about heat shields is that they get louder when the engine revs.

On my mother ford escort, the heat shield was loose/rusted and when you revved the engine the noise got louder, on my car, the noise stops even if you just blip the throttle. I gotta go out their and check again, maybe the accident jarred up one of the converters...after all my car did do a 180 on wet concrete-from the person hitting me.

I just checked the engine bay over when she was runnin..and buzzin..lol.

It seems to be coming from this canister type black and silver thing right behind the last plug on the engine near the firewall on the passenger side. This thing is like the size of a half a soda can, and has a wire going into it, it's very tight but that's all i can gather. I'm not saying this is definetly it, but it's coming from that area, now i don't think it's the cats cause the noise is above them.

Can't be anything too bad, after all it's been making this noise for the past 16+ months.
