I asked on these boards a few months ago about installing a 390C.I. V-8 in my '91 Cougar LS. The people who responded (I don't remember who) told me I'd have to put a C-4 or C-6 tranny and a solid rearend in there. I think the C-4 and AOD are roughly the same size and shape, but I'm not positive about it.
These cars are only now becoming cheap enough to be though of as fodder for swapping. But with the AOD and gasket blowing V6 I am sure that these questions will asked again.Just to nice of a car to just junk. For a Ford man who is cramped in the SN95 the MN12 and panther's are ones only choice.
I was visiting a local junk yard and came across a '96 Cougar with a V-8 just sitting on the underbody, stripped all apart. I almost cried. I do agree though, Mustangs are a dime a dozen anyway, and though I'm not real big on sedans a Town Car, Marauder, or Police Interceptor would also be fun. But the solid rear end and even MORE weight kinda turns me off to that idea.
