I have a 1997 Cougar 4.6 with 80,000 miles. The left (drivers side) cat warms up to slow and I have to pass the calif smog. I have ordered a new direct fit system which should be here this week (replacing the entire system/3 cats). Within the next 2 weeks I will have it pulled off (complete assembly including flanges). The system has no visable damage- I know that someone might be needing a system...I will be posting in the for sale section when it is pulled- it will be cheap.

How much did you pay,? I just bought a catco and my car passed just like before I ****ed with the exhaust.

I had tiny cats so I failed so badly.

I paid about 400.00 .

Well , you can return it and buy the Catco part number 612152 for the 4.6.
California legal.

Here's the issue with catco,

While it will do the job, I found the lack of information directly from Catco tech a complete "turn-off"- specifically quality related information. Whereas CarSound (who mfgs' the systems for Magnaflow, were very direct in their response to each question i had.

Tacky vendor!

Well I did my own research and saving 2xx.00 dollars isn't bad in my case.

Here is my smog test results..

%co2 was 14.9 & 14.8
%02 was 0.3 & 0.3
HC was 6 & 6
CO(%) was 0.00 & 0.00
NO was 0 & 0

No worries man , just trying to save you some cash.
A few years a go I paid 750.00 for refurb cats installed. I wasn't about to do that again.

I installed the cats myself this time with clamps and I have no leaks, sounds a little better than stock too.

Just so you know , I did get approved for 500.00 towards emission's related repairs since I failed my first smog test, too bad i didnt get to use that cash
since they took for ever (a month) to let me know I got approved.

Also a little secret that most people don't know.

You can get your tags with out smoging your car but you need an out of state address because you tell them that the car is out of state.
It cant be Neveda or Mexico.

Here is a great link to the bureau of automotive repairs for California.
