I was wondering if anyone that lives in cali could tell me what its like living down there, cause I need to get out of michigan. Theres not to many good jobs up here and I heard that community college is free in California after being a resident for a year, is that true? I also wanted to know how expensive it is to live there... any information would be very helpful though.

Thanks,

that really depends on where in Cali you want to live. The cities are expensive to live. I live in LA and there are cheap parts and expensive parts. But the cheap parts are cheap in a sense that the same price would get you a nice place in another town. And if they are "cheap" then as in anything else, you get what you pay for. I love living here though. Traffic sucks. But life is fun. Job-wise, depends what you do. I don't know about the college thing since I moved here after college. But there are plenty of jobs. It seems like not just in my business (entertainment industry) but almost everything out here is who you know. But there are jobs if you are a hard worker.
Everyone will say something different though. I had people tell me I would hate it out here before i moved here because they didn't like it.

Yea my brother and I are both looking to move out there and hopefully start a career in something, im 18 and he's 22 but were both hard workers. It's just there is nothing up here jobwise in michigan for young people it seems.

I will say its not hard finding work but its hard finding jobs that pay enough
to pay rent plus everything else .

Just FYI, I was paying $1100/mo rent in Ventura (1 hour north of LA) and it was a pretty good deal for 2 br, 1 1/2 bath, 1 car garage.

I love CA but it's one of the most expensive places in the nation.

I really like/miss CA....I just left....almost a year ago, becuase it is just TOO expensive....but anywhere is better than Michigan (my whole family lives in MI....I don't like it) no offence to anyone who lives there, I'm sure it's not that bad, really.

errr what i meant was i would rather "settle down" in the midwest then out here for numerious reasons.

Mike D:
what kind of work were you looking to get into? When I lived in MI i worked as a hemodialysis technician. They have decent pay, great benefits and will pay ya to go to nursing school if ya like. Job just wasnt for me. There is a unit in romulus right by the airport, no experience required, they pay you for training to. If you can deal with blood and a lot of stress its not a bad job.

Yup. If you add $500 to that, that's what I pay for a two bedroom with two baths and 2 car garage. I have two other roommates so we try to keep it cheap that way. But man this town is expensive. I was paying $950 for a one bedroom apartment last year with parking not included. This town is expensive to live. But like I said, I like it here, for now.
