as the title says, my car won't start. it has plenty of juice, it's a brand new battery, and i just got through replacing the ground cable due to corrosion, so that is ok. the positive cable is still in good condition.

when i turn the ignition, it clicks once, then does nothing, it doesn't even turn over once.

before it got to this point, i was having some weird electrical problems. i would be driving down the road, and all of a sudden my radio/clock/etc. would click off, then back on. most of the time, the cd playing would resume where it was playing, but sometimes, it would completely reset all my radio settings. also before this point, it would have problems starting, but only occasionally. i would turn the ignition, and it would click and do nothing....i would then turn the key off and back on, and it would crank right up. other times, i would have to go wiggle the negative battery cable, then it would fire up (which is why i replaced it).

i'm thinking the starter solenoid has bit the big one, which is why it won't crank now, but would a solenoid on its way out cause those weird electrical problems that i explained?

Try giving the solenoid a whack with a wrench. If it's on its way out, that will sometimes give you a few more starts. But, it won't hurt to give it a try.

I'd go after the starter solenoid, as suggested. The blinking on and off you observed may have been due to a bad ground, which may be remedied by the replacement cable you installed.

Very well could be the starter aor soleniod. They can do that very thing. Had an excort along time ago that had a bad starter. It broke the battery and soleniod and it did what you just described. Check booth. disconnect the starter from the soleniod and crank it. See what happens.

nah, it did the blinking even after the cable was replaced, so i'm guessing that there may be an intermittent short in the solenoid itself that's causing the blinking

is there any way to buy just the solenoid, or do you pretty much have to buy the whole starter?

check the ground busses
#1 behind pass side kick panel (clear connector 5 leads side by side)
#2 front of radiator support on drivers side (same connector)
#3 front of radiator support on pass side (same connector)
look real close for corrosion or melted wires

also check the connector down from neg terminal on battery,
the pins will seperate and cause problems like that.
in extreme cases you will see the wires have bulged and turned black due to high heat.

and last off
check your ground strap from pass side motor mount to chassis
those were insufficent at best.

clean all connections with contact cleaner and remember to pack them with di electric grease to prevent corrosion in the future
good luck
hope this helps

when you pull the kick panel off
it will be there partly covered by the carpet

I have had this happen with my 94.
It turned out to be the ignition switch inside the steering column. It would just lightly click when I tried to start it. Changed the switch and no more problem..

I'd say check that and the solenoid.. :)
