So I am in the process of resurrecting my father's 91 5.0H.O. Thunderbird. Nothing wrong with engine or any drive-train components. Just physical b ody damage that i'm working on. Got it smogged about a month ago, and passed extremely well! Almost better then a new car. It only has 60,350 miles on it.

At this current state, it has 61,099 miles. Has a fresh synthetic oil change, and major tune up. Now that i'm driving on the freeway again, I did a WOT run on the onramp. Then cruising for about the next 5-10 minutes, this smell just kept creeping into the car. Smells like rotten eggs, which I've somewhat resembled to my cat's are either clogged up, or going bad, right? Why would it only be WOT? No other symptoms of a cat going south? Never anytime else at all either, its off. Car runs immaculate should I say too, I can get between 16-18 MPG and I'm doing almost all city driving. I guess i'm going to disassemble the exhaust this weekend and see if I can somehow find out what shape my cats are in. Any advice will help :)

Well, just an update. The car now has 63,xxx miles on it. While some of my commute's are highway, I got a fair 2-5 times of a WOT run on the highway every tank of gas. Now, there is no more foul rotting egg smell from the car. It slowly faded away, but I know my cats are still good. So I guess it was just a major build-up of carbon and oil and who knows what not from sitting for 2 years. I even seafoamed it when I first got it running again, so maybe there was just stuff in the cats that needed to be burned off..? Well anywho, just letting you know that the smell is gone, and car is running FANTASTICALLY with 22MPG:) WOO!

Nice! Yea my car was doing the rotten egg smell thing for the last few months and way back before I did some major work on it for a year. I just took a 1,100 mile trip all highway and as far as I can tell its 95% gone. Only smell I get now is a tiny bit of that misty water type smell (cant describe it) which is apparently normal.
