To black4point6, you should go to the second link that you posted and read the very well put article by Anthony J Lewis on how people on this TCCOA should act when on this site.

No one likes to be told off or picked on when they are new! Just help people if you are able to and keep your head out of the clouds.

Sorry but I decided that you will blow off looking at the article so I have posted it here for YOU.

Quote from 8/31/06 "This thread bothered me a little because of a couple of the responses you received."

Firstly, never feel inhibited about asking questions. That's what this site and forum is all about. It doesn't matter that perhaps the subject has been "gone over a million times"- maybe for some, but it's new to you.

When I was new to the boards some years ago I asked alot of questions and sometimes got caught in the same kind of crossfire by the "opinion leaders" of the day. As if to say "just go on the tech articles and leave us alone". Again - the personal responses are what we are looking for. If we wanted to do research, we'd go to the Public Library.

Some people get very comfortable "staking out" their high and vaunted positions as "authorities" on any kind of forum like this. But they misuse their omnipresence by intimidating people who are newer to the game. I don't like that.

But the poet said; "he who laughs last laughs the loudest". Those "opinion leaders" who machine-gunned me to pieces on these boards not so long ago insulted a guy who built a car that they could never possibly catch now - which also is going to SEMA in Las Vegas this year representing Allen Superchargers. And it's only getting faster. If speed establishes a "pecking order", they are just little frustrated people who substitute attitude and sarcasm for horsepower. Gives them a rush in HTML... but on the pavement - It's pretty much in your face who the bigger dog is.

Keep doing what you're doing and always ask for help if you need it. Good luck.

I agree.

Is this forum becoming an archive database of old talk that we should just "search" out because the members are too lazy to answer?

I personally try to help whenever possible. I don't like stupid questions no more than the next guy. But search does not answer all questions.

So I've read various things on the 1443. Check the little purge valve and especially the hoses. They are prone to rotting.

why should every answer be handfed just because the user didnt search first. If it was a more in depth answer than sure, by all means, ask away. A simpe 'i got a code what is it thread' should not be made every time. I usually dont just post 'search' or something but a simple code fix shouldnt have a new thread started every 5 mins. and with that out of the way....

to 91bluecoupe;
Im not sure what you consider new but after 50 posts I am sure the user has used the search feature on more than one occasion. Also take into consideration that im almost confident that this is not the only forum that this user has ever been on, Every forum has the same issues and the same search functions.
With that being said, I originally didnt intend to 'flame' the user, just expressing on future matters try searching first. I have almost posted on numerous occasions, but i did a quick search. Just about every situation has been encountered, If i still had questions after then i would have posted.

For sakes of not being banned I am going to try to tip toe around my true feelings on your responce that im being a bully and to keep my head out of the clouds. Instead I will only say, If the guy comes back and asks more questions ( after searching first,of course) then he is a keeper. If not then we didnt need a mucher anyways.

another 2 years time all the searched thread will come up as "use the search next time" in the post.

sometimes search help but sometimes did not.

example like when i search the answer for some tranny question 1/3 of it show up "use the search"

then some of them are dated info.

as time goes on better solution will come out and better than better predessesor solution.

i like to post help solution post whenever i can rather than just "search next time" or i don't post at all.

91bluecoupe I'm with you. If we do some math black4point6 was 11 when the car in question was built. So all his knowledge comes from websites or other people like us answering his questions. I have worked at a Ford Lincoln Mercury Dealership since 1991, so I have more experience working on these vehicles than he has driving them. Yet he is the arrogant one, go figure.
shelbyseven feel free to ask questions If no one else will answer them I will and my responses come from personal experience.

please do not bring age into this, thats just pure prejudice. You had the nerve to call me arrogant, Yet you based that on my profile age. You are without a doubt knowledgeable with cars im sure, but you have no idea what skills and knowledge I possess. Please dont make a sweeping generalization about me. If you have a problem with the staement i made thats fine, but dont go out of your way to discredit me.

Let me restate my position once agian, before more mudslinging happens. I am usually the last person to post a ' you should have searched ' post, But a standard text book answer especially about a CEL should not have a new post everytime, unless there is a problem that has not been answered.
Unfourtunatly over the internet statments can become misconstrued. I did NOT intend for the" try searching next time " to be sacastic or condescending. I even found a few links that had the answers to his questions. If it was taken as me having a big head or being a bully, then it was taken wrong.

shelbyseven - I am sorry if it was taken wrong, and i apoligize if it came off wrong.
Dont be afraid to ask questions, but also dont forget the search. This site is overflowing with knowledge.

Black4point6 it seems to me that it is usually the ones in your age group that I see on here with the "do a search" answer. Even in the threads you listed there was at least one of the typical "search next time" responses. If you don't think age is a facter then I'll give you my dads phone number I still call him with dumb questions occasionally because he started at a Dealership in 1968 and is still turning wrenches today, all those years add up to a whole lot of experience and he has seen and fixed things that we haven't. Normally I don't like getting involved but for some reason yesterday it twisted me the wrong way. As stated by Blue91coupe that is what this forum is for, keep asking questions.

If we all used search everytime, there would be 0 new threads in any section but misc. and vids/images.

To the origional topic (where this thread needs to go). I have the same problem and code. It is one that I have just learn to deal with. I have done everything but replace the egr and related parts. When funds go up and the chassis is done making new problems, Ill fix it.

Okay guys, point proven. He has apologized to everyone offended by his recommending a search; however, he keeps being poked at. Lets just drop this because he provided links, and there hasn't even been a response on whether the problem was attended to or not.

On the side, I do agree that 1/3 of our searches provided do say "do a search" however like previously stated, he provided links so it is not a dead info thread

Evap is not EGR. I had the same code, searched and found the part numbers for the parts I needed (after I replaced the nasty rotted soft lines) and replaced them. I live in an area with a yearly emissions test, and I cannot take a car with that code in and pass. I used the experience as a time to kill the snorkle (which was later replaced with the GT box).

i've got no problem with black4point6...the links he gave did help me out.at least i know how to get to thecannister/valve/whatevers down there.
i haven't had time to work on it yet but i did put a cap on the vacuum port that runs from the throttle body to the cannister.the car still doesn't run right.has anyone else tried this?or does the cannister/valve(whatevers lurking behind the passenger headlight) absolutely have to have a vacuum for the car to run right?

The only thing I ever felt when I had that code and when I had various things plugged and disconnected was a shudder every once in awhile, I never got any severe drivability issues at all, I had to drive it with it capped off to get the hose, on the way back it came apart and I didn't know it until I had gotten home, only thing that changed was the code, no issues with driving/idling/starting anything. If it was a bad vacuum leak than it might cause some problems, but the valve, sensor, or canister being bad or a minor leak from rotten hose shouldn't cause problems short term wise.
