The car doesn't remember/know what octane you use.

unless you're tuned, its a waste.......like it was said before..........your car doesnt know what octane is being used.........you did two changes simultaneously so you dont really know why the detonation is gone..........don't foolishly trick yourself into thinking the EEC can do something you would like it to do...........could be because you did proper maintenance and reset the EEC, or could be because you switched to higher octane...........the adaptive strategy only learns fuel corrections (adds or subtracts fuel) based on what it sees from the oxygen sensors............the maintenance you did is alone capable of eliminating the detonation you were having......if everything else is up to par (like very little carbon buildup in the cylinders, O2s still switching fast enough, etc, etc), you will be able to go back to 87 octane.......if you still have detonation issues, it is most certainly not because the EEC got used to 94 octane.....it means your car has other issues
