Okay, so I don't know if anyone has ever done this before, but CLEAR headlight lenses from a 95-97 Grand Marquis will fit on the 91-95 Cougars. They take a little modification, but the end result looks pretty good, IMO. Has anyone else ever done this before?

Nice find, first I've heard of it too. But I think those headlights are pretty ugly looking as far as clear headlights go. A shame they put the lines through them...

They're a little brighter, my bulbs are kinda dim though, some Silverstars would definately make a bigger difference.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the lines, but they are the only ones that I know of that fit. They'd probably look better if they weren't used, but for $12 on ebay, I thought I'd give it a shot. Might look better with some 96-97 corners, too.

The 96/97 corners will probably fit but they will bulge out past the front of the flat headlights and look kinda half-assed. I'd say don't bother trying it...

I guess they would fit 89/90' as well but they're wired for quad headlights so it would take a bit of rewiring.

Now I wonder if all the 95/75 Vic/Marquis lights look the same with the lines or what...

Yeah that's true they are a lot more rounded than the 91-95's are.

I don't think they'd fit the 89/90's because the grill is more upright on those cars than the later Cougars. In fact, the 89/90's have the same housings as the 92-94 Marquis. I think that the 95-97 Vics had the same housings as the 89-93 Birds if I'm not mistaken. They are more rounded towards the center than the Cougars are...

Good find.

Do you mean that just the lense will work or did you use the entire housing? Can you explain what modification had to be done?

TIA,
Rob

how do you get the 9007 bulbs to work in there? I just put in HID's and would love to go with these lenses., much easier then taking my headlight apart and sanding it down and polishing it.

I had to use the whole housing, and then modify the bulb holder so the 9007 bulbs would fit. It took some work with a dremel to make the holes big enough, and I had to notch out the header panel to make the housings fit, but nothing too major. I'll try to post some pics of what I did...

Okay, so here are the pics:

Here's what the two look like sitting next to each other
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img276.imageshack.us/img276/9917/imgp2015fh8.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

The bracket that holds in the Marquis bulb is flipped upside down and holds the 9007 bulb for the headlight.
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/9900/imgp2017vq3.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

The hole that was used for the highbeams is shaped with a dremel tool to look like the hole for the parking lamp on the Cougar housing.

Then the header panel has to have a notch cut into it, and two of the small plastic braces have to be taken out. The Marquis housing is just a little bit deeper than the Cougar's.

how well are the headlights sealed now that the bulb looks to be only 2/3 the way in ? I cant have water getting in and destroying my HID bulbs and I dont know how much I would want to silicone around the bulbs ethier. I guess I will have to get a pair of lights and start trying.

What I wanna know is, Is there a Hi/lo bulb that fits in a 9006 housing (grand marquis) and has a 9007 connector (cougar)? If there is that would simplify things a lot. I'm just amazed that a GM's headlight is similar dimensions.

I actually just saw a grand marquis about a week ago with those headlights and thought about doing something similar. The 89/90 cougars have different shaped headlights, but they use the seperate bulb for the high beams like the marquis does. I thought about swapping the hood and grille on my 89 for the 91-93 style so the lights would fit right, but then it would already be wired up for the seperate high beam bulb like the marquis uses. This is good to know that they actually do fit. I'll have to get a set of those for my 91 once its running again.

The bulbs fit flush with the housing- they don't stick out, even though it kind of looks like it in the picture. There is a small gap at the top though, at least on the 9007 bulb, so you might want to come up with some o-rings if you're really serious about keeping water out. I've had them on for about a year now and haven't had any problem with it.

If you wanted to, you might be able to use an 89-90 wiring harness and use the 9006 bulbs out of the Marquis. I haven't seen any high-low bulbs that are the same size as the 9006's, if you find some let me know.

The housings arent EXACTLY the same as the Cougar's- there's an upper lip on the Cougar's that is not on the GM's, so you can't just take the lenses off and swap them, unfortunately.

I loved my marquis headlights. I think they look nice but look kinda funny with the older corners.
