I have noticed when I roll into town and let off the gas the car will make a clunk sound. Also if you tap the gas pedal while coasting through town to keep it moving it will clunk too. Anyone else ever have this issue and know what's up? I had someone recommend getting the u joints changed. I know my old tbird used to do it too but I was gettin rid of it so never looked into it.

Possible causes:
Code:
UJoints

Diff mounts (front and rear).

Tranny crossmember mounts.

Tranny mount.

Transmission.

Motor mounts.

Loose front or rear crossmember bolts.

Brake calipers loose (not so much gas/no gas but brake/no brake there.)
Guys, did I miss anything?

I'd get it up on a rack and start shaking and waggling things.

If all else fails, have them jack the back up under the spring perch and run it up, goosing and releasing.

Suggestion would be to, if you have to replace the UJoints, get the front diff bushings and tranny mounts and tranny bushing done at the same time if you're doing it.

Also, while the driveshaft is out, if you have the money, and have a competent local shop, get it rebalanced before you put it back in.

I'd lay odds on the u-joints myself.

Good god sounds like I'll have to find a competent local shop ! Too much for me to check out especially since I don't even have a garage or even a jack big enough to jack this thing up.

My clunking was from a wornout differential. The pinion and bearing were loose and I can tell it needed to be replaced.
It also solved the vibration that I had at around 80mph and above.

Jack and jack stands can be bought on sale for under $100.

I do my work in my driveway - don't have a garage either.

Keyword for you is "competent". Helps if someone doesn't start off with "Front wheel drive, eh?" when they see your car.

I used to be competent in myself but now that I get a bit older is seems much easier to pay someone else to this stuff. I remember stradeling my old car across a ditch to change tranny mounts.

Ok so i'ts been a while since I posted this but I'm back to work and can afford to work on this thing.

I have no problems finding u joints, motor mounts and transmission mounts. I even found differential mounting bushings. What I can't find is or not sure if I'm looking for the right part is the tranny bushings. ??

Any suggestions for the best place to get these ? and best ones to get. I don't want to do this over again.

UJoints Advanced auto brute force brand ?

Diff mounts (front and rear). Amazon.com LINK

Tranny crossmember mounts. ?

Tranny mount. ebay ?

I have myself a garage now :D Getto one but garage none the less lol.

The Energy Suspension diff mounts that you linked are only for the front.

You can get cross member mounts HERE. They are a PITA to change.

Transmission mount HERE.

If there a PITA to change you can bet your butt I won't be changing them LOL.
I changed one motor mount and a tranny mount in my old tbird and the other front motor mount was more then I wanted to deal with.

Think i'll jack it up and check out what I can before I order anything. I have a idea what to look at in the tranny mount, & u joints.

My OD switch don't work and hasn't since I've gotten the car. Not sure if it's a loose connection or what? Still get average 22-24mpg so don't bother me much.

The OD switch is for "O/D Off". So you're good to go since it's on unless you activate the switch.
