I am putting in the Eibachs to lower my car and I am using new Sport front shocks(struts) what other new parts do I need to have a shop mate them together so I can just do a swap out old unit for new unit?

- Upper shock mount
- If the shock didn't come with an isolator that goes between the coil and the lower part where it goes on the shock you might need to get that also.

I noticed that my Tokico shocks didn't have it, neither did the Monroe replacements, I had to remove the isolator from the old shocks coming off and put them on the new ones.

Upper shock mounts are around 30-40 bucks a piece, I wish I had replaced mine, I think mine are noisy (on both cars, mainly the 89).

I am not going to take apart the old shock and coil spring setup I just want to remove it as a whole unit and put in the new shock and coil spring.

Do I need new any bolts?

The shock should come with the upper mount to shock nut already, that is the only thing that holds the two together, so you shouldn't need anything besides what you would anyways no matter how you decided to do it.

I used nyloc nuts and washers for the upper shock mount to shock tower mounting (3 each side), and blue thread locker on the factory nyloc nut on the lower shock to lower arm mounting bolt, but these are related to putting whole assembly to the car/lower arm, not specifically to a new assembly.

So how is the shock held together with the spring when it is not in the car?

Can you hold the shock and spring assy on its own when not in the car?

Yes, you can have the shock/coil/upper mount assembly together out of the car. It is held together but the nut on the upper shaft of the shock to the upper mount.



yellow is the upper shock mount, red is the nut that holds it together as an assembly, blue is the shaft of the shock the nut goes on, and purple is the upper shock mount to shock tower studs.

I would also be sure that you take this with you to the shop doing the mounting of the new coil to the new shock:

Just to get this straight, I would buy a new upper mount (has 3 studs that go thru the shock tower) and there is also a upper spring isolator (like in the rear). If so, is there also a lower spring isolator? My service CD implies that the upper mount incorporates the spring isolator.

Upper mount and make sure that the shock has a rubber piece that goes where toe bottom of the coil sits on the shock. There is no seperate upper isolator.

The Monroe or whatever factory style replacement (not performance) I got did NOT have them, I had to take them off the stock shocks. Now that I look at it, the Tokico shocks had it.

My tokicos came with the rubber part in the coil pocket/lower coil resting spot. I removed them from the Sport shocks I took off and put them on the new Monroe shocks for the 89, so that I wouldn't have to try to do that when the shop was removing and remounting them.

you can see the rubber nibs that hold it in place below, and a little bit if them between the shock and the coil.

He owns a shop called, D & D Race Technologies.

We had a group buy on them awhile back.

I got them in 90/10 version, 12 way adjustable, 325 lb. springs, torrington bearings for the springs, and both spanner wrenches.

It came to like $650 or so.

update

Update on the Eibach installation.

All went pretty good. After 3 trips back to the shop who put the front springs assy together.

The ride is ok, but the feel of the car is great my car feels like it loves to make quick turns now no body roll at all.

And it looks better to without any gap in the fender between the tire and fender.
