Can someone explain the procedure for properly testing the compression on a 4.6 liter motor?

I got the compression gauge as an early christmas present so would like to check my current engine.

ALso what is normal compression numbers?

Block the tbody so it is full open

disable the fuel pump and coils

pull all the plugs out.

After all that is done you want to make sure you crank the motor over an equal amount of times on every cylinder. Between 3 and 5 cranks is plenty. Actual compression numbers will depend what all is done to the motor but the biggest thing you are checking for is any large variation between cylinders.

Hope that helps.
