I just need a final opinion before I go ahead and purchase some tires. Both of my cougars need tires and I'm still debating what I should get. Keep in mind the Cooper tire dealer in my area sells tires for way less than anyone else, plus free installation and tire rotations for the life of the tire.

I'm planning on purchasing 255/45R-17's for the 92' and I was just wondering how the Coopers compare. I really don't need the top of the line, just something that performs well.

Another member here has 254/45/18 Coopers on his Mark, and he seems pretty impressed with them, I'm pretty sure that he has the top of the line ones, not the Cobras though.

I dont know about the top of the line ones, but i had 225/50/15" cobra's on my winter wheels(mustang) that I used for daily driving. I didnt like them at all on wet/dry pavement. They did fine in the snow though lol, and 4th gear burnouts at a 50 roll can be fun. I think thier more expensive tires are supposed to be good/decent though. Good luck, Justin

Thanks for the advice, I think i will opt for the better coopers because I don't think the price difference is big.

i've had heard nothing but good about the new cooper zeon or something like that, supposed to be a wonderful tire for a wonderful price.
Good, I think thats what I'm getting! Funny isn't how a wonderful price still means shelling out 500 dollars  @#$!

Yeah, it's the Zeons that he has, and I've been pretty impressed by them. I believe they are every bit as good as Nittos for street driving, and they seem to last longer.

you'll see a difference when you hit an on ramp at 80 mph.
in the lotus?

I've got nothing bad to say about my Cooper Cobra Radial GTs aside that they seem to be a little soft. Seem to stick fairly well on the streets, and held up to me running 55MPH chasing a 95 Cobra up an offramp (the good ole long right hander rated at something like 25mph)

We'll see how they compare to the goodyears (I believe they are) that I've got on my 16 sport rims once they go on.

I have a set of Cooper Cobras on my bird (225/70/15). I have had them since March of last year, 20,000 miles ago. They suck. I already need to replace them, they are completly worn out, they look like slcks. I thought that it might be that I was doing too many burn outs or too many trips to the track, but no, the ones I had on the front wore out just as badly. I rotated them twice just trying to make them last longer, no help. I will never buy another set of Coopers again. A waist of $450.

se now we are getting into a stupid argument. lets not compare a 15 inch cooper with a brand new cooper that is 17 in, night and day tires. i'll admit, the cobras were junk, in any size. it doesnt matter what kind f tire you have, if you burn the **** out of them, rotate them, burn the **** out of them again, yes, all four will wear out real quick, no matter what tire you have. for $450, buy some bfg's next time, www.tires.com. nitto makes a few great tires as well, but stay away from the new neogen, its cheap for a reason. i'm sure nobody here has had a set of the cooper zeon's to burn off already, they are brand spanking new this winter/spring, so if someone says a cooper sucks, its probably not in direct reference to the zeon.

Actually the front had just about the same amount of wear as the front. I rotated them so that I might be able to have some tread for the winter. Luckly we did not have too much snow here. Hopefully it is just the Cobras, not all coopers. Regardless, I will never buy that brand again. When a company screws up once with me, they will never have my business again, this is why I will never buy a Toyota, had an 86 Nova (Corolla basically, same engine) that dropped two cylinders at 130K.

I wouldn't go as far as never buying an entire brand because of a single product screw up. I think all major corporations have made at least one bad product in thier history, Ford being no exception. As a rule toyota's make a much more reliable car, but I stop short of buying one for simple reason of an irrational brand loyalty to the Ford Motor company :D ! I'll remain loyal to a company as long as they take care of the problems and believe me I will not use a bad product twice!
