Hey Yall,

Has anyone ever made a cougar/bird into a convertable? That would be one sweet ride if somebody has. I would think that the top obviously would have to be cut off and replaced with say a mustang convertable top. But, would that even come close to fitting? Hmm..... an idea here? or a really really HORRRIBLE mistake?

It's been done a few times, but our roof is also structural so you'd have to find some way to keep the car from sagging. Mustang stuff wont even think about fitting. And you'd have to figure out what to do with the tops of the doors.

Here's a pic that someone stuck in the gallery off of the front page, I don't think anyone knows who owns the car though.

Funny you mention that. Just tonight I was out driving home from a friends house, and I saw a 89-91 Supercoupe Tbird with the top chopped off it. I pulled a j turn over several lanes of traffic to check this out. It looked really neat, but it was one of those lowrider cars with the gold wheels and stuff. And of course he had the hydraulic setup on it.

But, after seeing that, the mn12 would have made a great vert, especially a supercoupe.

There is a cougar convertable prototype that Merc built but never built it:

Here are a few photoshoped birds just for an idea of what it would look like:

You guys like convertable MN12's? Then you MUST check this out  - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1843643222

Someone posted it on the Crown Vic site a week ago, and everyone loved it!

It says that despite additional frame bracing, it wound up being lighter when the roof was removed. Maybe the rear glass being replaced with plastic helped too. Beautiful car :).

As per the convertable Cougar posted above, it would look really nice if it had a roll bar, tbird front clip (squared look), and some fog lights. You gotta love the keyless entry on the car too :D!

That same car sold on eBay last year at around $14,800 if I remember right. Talk about a deal! I'd love to have that.

I'm still waiting for my mother to develope pictures from her trip to florida last month. She took a picture of a bright red 96-97 Thunderbird convertable. She asked me "how come you didn't get a convertable" I said " they never made them" she said " I took pictures of one in Florida!"
