Engine Air Cleaner

First, Loosen the clamps on the air cleaner air outlet
tube and remove the tube (see illustration).

By unsnapping the elbow from from the retainer clip, disconnect
the PCV hose at the air cleaner.

Slide off the hoses from the PCV filter adapter.

Remove the air cleaner cover and filter element.

Remove the PCV filter retaining clip and remove the retainer
from the air cleaner tray.

Remove the filter pack from the retainer.

Remove the nuts retaining the air cleaner assembly to
the resonator (see illustration).

Remove the air cleaner assembly.

Next, Jack passanger side of the vehicle up and remove
front wheel. (drivers side shown, passengers side simular).

Remove the plastic push pins retaining the splash shield
to the body. This is accomplished by pulling out the centers

of the pins with pliers to unlock them, then grasping
the body of the pins with pliers to pull it from the fender (see illustration)

Remove the bolts and nuts and detach the splash shield
and insulator from the fender and body.

When installing the splash shield be sure the plastic
push pins are fully engaged into the sheet metal. The installation is the
reverse of removal. Note:The fender does
not need to come off the car.

Note: On some models you will have to cut the 4 rubber
bushing off the air silencer box in order to reuse the bolts that were
used to hold down the stock air box. Another solution is to replace all
4 bolts with new ones.

Finally, if you install a new K&N air filter you will
need to file about 1/8th inch of plastic from inside the 3 slots were the
top of the airbox hooks to the bottom. (see picture)

This modification is good for about 10 HP when combined
with a K&N panel filter (part# 33-2033). See MN12
Performance Air Filter Kit
for maximum air filter performance. Also
see MN12
Performance Intake Tube Kit
for SC's only.
