ok. so i tore down my 99 5.4L to do new timing chains. i got it all back together and damn crank pulley wont go on all the way. jit goes about half way on and then stops. i managed to strip out the my crank bolt. got to get another one tomorrow.

anyone have any idea what would stop it?

yeah i completely remember putting the crank gear on right because i had to see the timing mark on the gear to line up my chains. i guess ill pull the timing cover off.

would that be the only thing keeping it from goin in?

yes, i have the key way lined up, that how i know i can get the pulley on half way.

What about the trigger wheel is it on properly

I believe it is. I couldn't get the timing cover on if it backwards.

here is a pic i took before putting it all back together... the timing marks arent lined up because i spun the engine a few times to make sure all the valves were good.

nevermind, im such a dumbass. i used the wrong crank gear on the crank. i got two crank gears with my timing set.

guess ill pull it all apart tomorrow.

I was right that pic uses a stamped steel I bet it had the old style

torn it all down, and installed the other crank gear, all is well now.

the original crank gears was a two piece.
