Is that a California emissions car? The 49 states cars got a distributor in 1995 that went to DIS for 1996. Anyhow, for a 1995 Cali car you need one of these as listed on Rockauto:

On a 4.6, you have to remove the A/C compressor to gain access to it. I imagine it would be in a similar spot on the 3.8, on the passengers side of the crank pulley.

What are the symptoms on the car? On our old Cougar, you would crank it over and over, and it wouldn't start, nor did the tachometer move. Then sometimes it would start right up.

Good luck with it.

That's what's it doing it will crank over and not start and sometimes but not all the time start.I have put in new coil ICM dist and o2 sensors. I have a crank senor coming .so you think it might be under the a/c compresser?

If it has a distributor, then it doesn't have a crank sensor. If it does have a crank sensor, then it is on the passenger side just above the harmonic balancer.

It attaches to the front cover using two bolts where the green arrows are in this picture.

Did you set the timing correctly when you replaced the distributor? Do you get spark at the plugs? Do you get pressure in the fuel rail? Engines need air/fuel/spark/compression so check for those.

This is what I did I marked where the rotor was at tdc then marked the new one slid it in and it started right up ran for a half hour or so . Turned it off went back and it would not start back up. I was so frustrated I just let it sit so far a month now the wife want me to get rid of it but this is the only thing that I have had trouble with ever since I have owned it and I bought it in 1999. There was pressure I think it was like at 35-40 pounds . Thank you for the help I still like to keep it but but I'm fighting with the wife about it only thing that will help is if it runs.

My car is a 97, so the ignition setup is different than yours, but on my 3.8 it's on the front of the engine by the water pump on the pass side.

Just for sh## and g##, Try plugging an obd2 reader into the port and try starting the car.
If your issue is a wiring/ground issue it should run with the tool plugged in. (That's what happened to me)

I don't think so. How can an OBD2 tool work on a car that isn't equipped with it.
