Ok, this might seem strange to some (Most) of you, but here goes...

Since removing the cats on the GT the exhaust sounds great, and there is of course much less back pressure (well, I'm assuming so). BUT the exhaust is getting louder than I want it when I get on it. (And according to my next door neighbor/landlord louder than my neighbors like it)

I don't want to put the cats back in as they are so I'm thinking of two options.

1) leave the exhaust the way it is, with the Magnaflow DI-DO but add a couple of Glasspacks in the very back (or ahead of the DI-DO).

2) put the Cats back in BUT further from the manifolds with the hard angles cut off and weld them in so that the bends are gone or at least not as harsh. (make sense?)

What do you think?

i seen a members pics with some nice glasspacks for resonators.....id put em in the back to get rid of some of that exhaust "popping" that happens from a muffler being installed too far forward.....hell, youll kill two birds with one stone.....oh, and i borrowed your plenum cover idea.....mines all black with nothing but a silver t-bird logo on it....should be finished tommorow....a local sign shop did it for me.

Sounds great, can't wait to see some pics. A sign shop did my GT stripes.

You're probably right about the Glasspacks in the back. I'll have to talk to the local shop about that. LOL I'm sure he'll get a good laugh out of that. He's the same one who made my downtubes and allowed me to take out the Cats.

LOL The ironic thing is, I actually had some of those. For some reason, I took them off and put tips on that looked just like them but weren't resonators. I don't know that they'd help reduce noise enough however.

I can sympathize. I made the decisions for mine based on the sound quality and performance characteristics. And I'm more than happy with my setup in that respect, however, it did turn out to be louder than I expected or really wanted. Don't get me wrong, there are some times when I like that it's "look at me" loud, but it definitely takes away from the sleeper aspect of my car....which makes picking on posers more difficult. :)

Couldn't you just keep your foot out of the go-pedal when you're near the neighbors? I can't imagine yours is any louder than mine, and mine is still pretty quiet IF I'm very gentle with the throttle.

Then again, that doesn't seem like a viable solution.....go-pedals are just too much fun.

In my opinion, adding the cats back in is a mistake. There are much better flowing solutions that you can add that will help quiet it down some. The cats will be much less effective if placed further downstream, since they won't be hot enough to function properly. Bearing that in mind, it makes more sense to put something in that flows better, since the cats won't be doing much anyway.

Thanks for the thoughts. What I've really heard from neighbors consists of my landlord stating that the neighbors have mentioned to her that they don't like my "hot rodding" up and down the street. First of all they have NEVER seen me "hot rod up and down the street" There are kids in my neighborhood, two of them are the daughters of a very good friend of mine. So its just old folks *****ing cause they have nothing better to do.

I'll keep that in mind about the cats. I'll probably go with short glasspacks in the rear when I've got the extra funds.

Those are SuperTrapp mufflers if that is what you're talking about. You can adjust the sound by the number of discs you use. And they are very expensive. Good idea though.

If it's to loud, you're to old!

Just put flomaster 40's on my car to fix my "to quiet" sound that my Dad pointed out to me.

You could put some high flow cats on it.

You Know!

Hello

You Know your car sounds good when the Police show up.

I can't seen to get past a good tune without police participation.

LOL Believe me, I'm not as concerned with the neighbors as I am about my personal tastes. Its getting to have that "rapping' sound at upper RPM levels. LOL Probably the very sound I liked so much when I was 18.

Anyway, its not a real high priority item at the moment. Just looking for various thoughts and ideas on it. When the neighbors come to ME personally instead of my landlord, I'll consider it more seriously.

if you wanna talk too loud? i remember when i swapped in a 5.0 to replace my 351W in my 79 coug, the left exhaust manifold wasn't bolting up properly to the head. had a big leak and had to drive with the window up. i love loud- louder the better i thought but that was just plain annoying. had a sick idol though.... sounded like a top fuel dragster!
