I was in a local Ford dealership asking about Springs for my 96 TBird Sport. All of the Ford Springs are discontinued and not available. I currently have a good set of Vogtland 1" lowering springs all around, but I want to go back to the stock height. Without going to used parts, what is the best option out there?

You want to go back to stock ride height?!! I currently have a set of Vogtland 1" lowering springs on my 1997 Thunderbird and I barely notice any difference from the stock ride height with the OE Ford springs!!

Are you sure your's aren't the 1.6" drop springs? Do you have pics of your car?

Your only real option, if you don't want lowering/handling springs on your car, is to buy a set of replacement springs (like Moog, for example) from an auto parts store. But, those springs will be very soft/cushy, as they are just one single part number (from each manufacturer) intended for BOTH 3.8 liter and 4.6 liter engines! I had the Moog springs on the front of my car and was VERY unhappy with them; way too much front-end "float" over dips in the road!

I don't know what your intentions are, but I kept the stock springs (non sport) on my car in the rear and put Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks on all four corners, the two front shocks were their quick struts (shock and spring pre-assembled, which worked for me because the stock front springs were broken). I don't get any 'floating' on the freeway or city streets and my ride is as firm as I'd like it - definitely more firm than stock.

I am 100% positive I have the 1" lowering springs. Quite awhile back, I was part of the original group purchase that brought these springs to existance.

I have learned the hard way that lowering Springs are crap for drag racing. I want to go back to the stock height for weight transfer at the drag strip... I guess I will be looking for a set of Sport springs now...

I have the MN12 Bilsteins shocks on the rear and Sport shocks on the front due to a Bilstein Front shock breaking quite awhile ago as well.

FWIW, A cheaper alternative may be what I do. I have H&R lowering springs installed, but I use AirLift air bags in the rear springs to raise the back of the car about 1/2" for the strip.

or you could get a 1 inch raise on a 1" lowering kit spring. plus it would be super cheap.

I have Air-lift 1000 air bags in the rear springs currently. I don't want lowering springs period...

I went back and looked at my racing slips from 2003 - 2004 and compared them to today. When I ran the Sport Springs and shocks, the car was consistently a 1.8 60Ft car. The best 60Ft on that setup was a 1.819.

After I put the lowering springs and Bilsteins on, the car only had one sub 2.000 60Ft before the Big-Bore went in.

The Big-Bore's best 60Ft without the air bags was a 1.877, best with is 1.767. This car should be running a high 1.5, low 1.6 60Ft and it will never get there with lowering springs on it...

or you could get a 1 inch raise on a 1" lowering kit spring. plus it would be super cheap.
I am curious. How do you do that? Will the car still pass a hard NHRA tech with this?

Kevin Crane is the person I have been working with.

They have the engineering data needed to replicate any of the springs used on MN12 T Birds. I gave it to them when I had my set made. All you need is the spring code from the "B" Pillar. They can also make them in various computed amounts of lowering.
