Is it possible to cut a single coil off of the front springs without taking the shock/spring off the car? I like ride of my '97 sport, but it sits front high and I'd like to drop it 3/4 to 1 inch to even it out. Anyone done it?

the birds are suposed to be rear high....if your fronts higher then your rear you may have bad rear springs....and id guess you have to take the strut off to cut the coil off in the front....unless you heat the springs....witch is very bad....b/c you lose sitffness

All the stock birds I have seen seem to sit front high, sport or no sport. i would do Eibachs, but they do the same thing, only lower. I have over 100k, so it may be time to start looking at some replacement suspension (shocks/springs)anyway, but my car rides and handles great. I'm with you on heating the springs, i have always heard it is a bad idea. i don't want to add the extra cost and complexity of airbags if I go with Eibachs later, just to even the rear.

Hmmm, maybe the rear springs have sagged a bit then. would still be nice to even the front with the rear by cutting a coil. the front isn't an inch higher than the rear or anything , it just appears to have more fender gap, and that is what I want to reduce for a more balanced look. if I have to take the spring soff to cut them, I might as well replace them. That is why I am hoping t cut off a coil without removing them. Maybe I can get my hands on some spring compressors and see If i can mount them while the shock/spring is still on the car.

I would not cut it well it is no the car or the strut because it is under compression u start cutting it and it is going to snap. As for the car "sitting high" the wheel wells are diffrent sizes the front is bigger. If you want to lower ur car bu cutting ur springs i did it. I took off 2 coils and it lowered it 1.5". i ended up lowering my can 3" in front and in the rear i dont remember just so the tire was at the wheel well.

if u want to cut springs do it with the spring off the strut and to take the spring off the strut use spring compressors or it will shoot off.

DO NOT cut a coil with the spring still in the car, it's dangerous, and frankly, it's stupid. My car with sport springs sits high all the way around, but higher in the back. Take the springs out, cut them, and then put them back in, doing 1 at a time, and take off a little at a time, until you are happy with the ride height. It takes some time and work, but you'll be happier with the finished product.

Alright, really bad idea to cut springs while still on the car. I'll look and see how difficult it is to pull off the shock to and have a shop remove the spring so I or they can cut off a coil.

I measured my car an it is a 3/8 inch lower in back than front. Sounds like my rear is already lowerd:) , all I have to do is drop the front a tad.

thanks for the responses

FRKYEYE, how much spring did you cut? sound like your suspension bottomed out big time. What were you doing, catching some air?
