So I've got the green light on doing an SC swap on my newest project car, my new question is what do I have to change, splice, switch, etc... to convert over to EDIS, instead of distributor?

Easiest fix would get a 94/95 SC EEC or a 96+ N/A EEC and the 94/95 engine harness. Though it might be possible with a 89-93 SC ICM and the pre 96 N/A EEC. Either way your front cover and balancer must match the DIS system (either 89-93 style or 94+)

If you're swapping to an SC motor, won't you be getting the EDIS setup along with it, or am I not understanding what you're planning?

I believe the engine is coming with the EDIS setup such as the coil and reluctor and such however it is a simple engine harness swap or is it a complete engine bay harness swap or both. I figured I would need the 94/95 EEC, or at least a chip to control the engine. I am mostly wondering from the firewall forward what mods will have to be done. I'm just not sure where all the wiring for the EDIS comes from and where the wiring from the coil and distributor set up comes from, I haven't looked that far into it and during swaps I see no one messing with any of it or asking anything about it.

I've done the 4.6 SOHC to 4.6 DOHC swap and that was cake. This seems a bit more in depth lol. Of course all of this is assuming that everything goes smoothly with the acquisition of the motor from a member here. Hopefully everything he recalls being there is still there, obviously I figure I'll have gaskets to change, misc sensors, fluids, odds and ends as far as components go but I'm trying not to get hung up on the electrical side of this. I have an ASE in electrical however I just over analyze everything first. I suppose worst case I could search for and pick a 94/95 sc of its harnesses however I just wanted to know what needs to be swapped if anything.

If it's a '94/'95 motor, just find an SC of similar vintage from which to pirate complete harnesses. I don't know about the EDIS N/A 3.8, but I know the SC has sensors (e.g. crank position sensor) that the older 3.8s have no provision for. Seems to me that the SC has a knock sensor, as well. Just find an SC, get the whole left side (as you face the car) engine bay harness (that goes through the firewall to the ECM), and the engine harness, and call it a day.

My big questions is how do you plug the hole?
Seems to me that you'd also have to put a stub out of a distributor in there - since the disty is what drives the oil pump in most pushrod motors!

It does. On 3.8l with DIS, the camshaft syncronizer assembly replaces the distributor. It has the CMP sensor on top.

Considering the 94/95 SC does not have a external Ignition Module you will need a EEC that has provisions for this. If you want/need a knock sensor then SC EEC if not any 96+ 3.8 EEC should work, both most likely will need repining.

Not knowing off the top of my head if the 96 EEC has IAT sensor or uses the MAF could be an issue (while if it does I believe you could repin the MAF and pull the signal form the IAT).

I honestly couldn't care less about knock sensors by the time they do there job it's too late.

96 EEC does have an IAT sensor and a MAF.

The 89-93 have the DIS module located above the AC compressor. On the 94/95 they are on the Fender near the air filter box, like on most 94/95 4.6 vehicles. They both use an external DIS module but the late model ones are less prone to failure.

Well I stand corrected, my bad.

With 94/95s using a ICM I'd use one of their EECs. You might be able to use any EEC but I don't know if the N/A have provisions for the BAP--or if you really need it.
