When I'm sitting in my car and it's idling, particularly when I'm in gear, I get ths sound that I can onl describe as a sort of diesel sound. It's just like the sound you hear coming from, say, a diesel pickup when it's idling, almost identical..

It's not real loud, you can only hear it inside the car. The noise of the engine ouside the car drowns it out. The sound is most noticable at idle. If it's in park or neutral, it's harder to hear and if you get the RPMs up above about 1000, it SEEMS to go away.

Anybody have any idea what this might be?

Maybe the Fuel Injectors ;) Normal for them to make noise

Yea my car does the same thing. If I turn everything off (radio, heater, etc) and listen, I can hear it. Sounds like it's coming from inside the dash. I do beleive that it just the injectors at work!

EXACTLY the same here.

I was worried about this a while ago, but after all the reading I've done about it here, I'm pretty sure it's the injectors and normal valve train noise.

However, when I use a thicker oil(like a 10/30 HM), the valve train-related clatter seems noticeably less.
