kinda strange, it opens from the outside but not the interior handle... anyone know anything?

The rod is most likely disconnected from the handle.

if you take it out you will probably see that the plastic that connects to the metal rod snaped. happened to me thanks to a drunk friend, easy to replace though no need to take the door panel off

Mine broke as well on my 92 (should be similar I would think) but somehow the piece that the handle pivoted (rotated) on was missing so I put part of a nail in there and it worked better than the other door did
