dorman intake issues?

i finally bought used a PI intake a couple days ago, and after getting it home i realized it was the dorman one. so today i was cleaning it up and checking the crossover seals and such then i noticed the plastic is bulged and cracked at the coolant port area:mad: i also was looking in the runners and they all look like they are cracked, but there isnt any cracks on the outsides of the runners, so i suspect it may have been a casting thing, but at the #5 runner there is a bigger crack than the rest so it makes me worry. so for an 05 intake that retails new for $200+ it sure seems like a pos so far:boom:

has anyone had problems with these manifolds, and experienced problems like this, or am I just worrying about nothing? also is the performance any different than the oem PI intake?

:redmad:

buy a new one from advance auto... keep couple weeks.. then bring back the cracked one and tell me its a peice of **** and u want ur money back ;)
I just ordered mine from Jeg's.. I didn't want to mess with any b.s. off brand intakes like that.. Mine's a Genuine Ford product, stamped into the intake casting.. $210, free shipping.

Oh Yeah. What do you mean by "05 intake" that's a 3v motor...

after this experience i wont buy another off brand engine part like that. but i also didnt realize it was a dorman till i brought it home(i didnt even know what a dorman was) had i realized it when i was pulling it off of the car i probably would have left it.

also its for a 2 valve, the 05 is just the year the manifold was made, it was stamped on one of the runners and on the crossover.
Throw that Dorman in the trash and get a OEM Ford from Jason here for $159 plus freight. Every picture I see of a Dorman makes me want to :zpuke:
What is doorman LOL. Is that an aftermarket company making OEM parts for ford?
Yeah the dorman intake is a POS as far as quality goes. I bought one for an 02 Crown Vic brand new, slapped some RTV on the coolant ports and bolted it to my NPI heads. Started it up, and...aw crap a vacuum leak. Listened with a stethoscope and it's somewhere under the #5 runner. I couldn't return it because of the RTV I applied to make it work on my heads...but at least it made more top-end power like a PI intake is supposed to.
i will admit that when my npi motor's intake cracked i went to oriely's and picked up a doorman. never could get that p.o.s. to quit the very small coolant leak it had. it'd leak slowly, fill up the spark plug socket, and cause a miss.. but i got the new motor now.. my npi intake is sitting in the garage if you want it..:D j/k i wouldn't sell it to anyone
