I know that certain paints will give the illusion of being more than one color, depending on the light, angle, etc...I saw a ricer this morning, the car looked like the paint was changing as the light hit the body. Angled forward, looked blue. Angled back, dark green. Angled straight on (flats or curves), almost gold.
Is this type of paint expensive? What I had in mind was either two shades (dark green and blue) or even three shades (dark green, dark blue and black) if I get my 'Bird repainted anytime soon. If it's too high, I'm going back to the '95 PA paint code, Deep Jewel Green. Thanks, y'all...

Yeah my buddy has a 93 mx6 that is black with PPG Harlequin stripes. They will go anywhere from copper-ish gold to purple to blue. It looks amazing on his car as stripes, but if a car was painted entirely in that...it would be too much for me...especially on a TBird. Plus...the stuff is about $35 an ounce, so an entire prep and paint job could run in the nieghborhood of 6-7 grand.

Of course a camera can't capture the color of this stuff...but I have two pictures that may give you an idea. sorry they are so big...but it helps show the color...

muy banco

that stuff is pretty expensive..and personally i think it only looks good as racing stripes or flames and other things of that nature, the whole car in that , to me, looks bad, but its not my car, do what you please

Agreed...IMO, there is way too much color going on when the whole car is painted with that stuff. Stripes, flames or accents look great when done right.

There are a few mfg's making it...House of Color and DuPont are two. I'm looking at the DuPont Chromallusion colors, be prepared to pay around $240 a PINT. Some of the paints can have six or more colors and shades that show up. They require a base coat first, so if you decide on this stuff, they usually need to lay paint at least 3 times (base, top, and clear). The labor really starts to add up as well....

My car is painted with Sikkens Pearl Blue. It looks like a pearl white but flips to a baby blue when the sun or some headlights hit the paint.

I think it looks good.....:ztoohot:

dude, i love your paint. How much did an entire paint job cost with that stuff? Is it easy to maintain? Looks awesome! Post some other pictures of it if you have any, I really like it!

Thanks. It cost around $3000 in good ol' Canadian funds. I will try to post some other pictures.....only thing is that it's very difficult to get the blue on camera.

I'll bet it is hard to get the blue on camera. I've seen paint that was somewhat similar to yours in person, and it's amazing. $3000 canadian is awesome...what would that equal US? Around $2,000? I'm impressed. Is Sikkens Pearl Blue expensive? Either way I was expecting way more than that.

Very impressed,

Yeah...I would say around $2000.00 US. The paint is very expensive. My buddy hooked me up with the labor.

We could have done it for a bit less but that meant going with sikkens paint and some other type of clear. Either PPG or something else, but I did not want to do that.
