Bump.

In the years since I started using https://www.ytddownloader.com/ it has gotten progressively worse with each forced upgrade. This used to be the best down-loader around.

Recently the free version has become unbearable to use. Anyone have any suggestions as to the *CURRENT* best way to download high-res videos from YT?

Also, after digging around I've found that (it also appears) Google has added script to restrict circuitous downloads via ... say VLC player to like 640 or 720p. I'd really like to get at least 1080p copies and 2K or even 4K if available.

I also found this laundry list of software at PC mag but don't want to install crap on my PC or pay for something that doesn't work or will only work briefly until Google make their next patch to YT. Do you guys have any solutions or recommendations? Are any of these in the link below worth a ****?

If you don't want to reply here please send me a PM. Thanks!

I've been using the free version of Video Downloader Ultimate, but it's a software that you have to install on the computer, and it has ads & pay delays. I can get 1080p vids through it but the pay delays get really annoying sometimes and I find myself resorting to the "ssyoutube" (savefrom.net) trick if I'm in a hurry and don't need 1080.

That's all I got. I too would like to know if there are better (free) options.

If you're using FF the Video DownloadHelper addon will do it nicely. It's also available for Chrome but they disable functionality on Google sites (Youtube). I click the Youtube share button and copy the link, then paste in into Media Player Classic which allows me to save it.

Been using https://clipgrab.org/ for years. It also works on DailyMotion, Vimeo, etc.

I tried the latest release on a Sony 4k video, and it would only DL 1080 max. I haven't found any 100% free downloader that'll grab full 4k off YT.

I just tried https://www.4kdownload.com/ and it tops out at 1080 as well.

edit: It claims to be downloading 4k when set to MKV format. File is 2.8GB, so we'll see..

WTF? I don't know why it made a new post, as I logged in to edit the original..

On mobile, delete everything before "youtube" in the link and replace it with "ss". You can just download it from there.
