after putting my oil pomp pickup tube on my motor it didnt look quiet right. by the looks of it i am a little worried that the crank will hit it. also doesnt look like it seats deep enough into the pan.

the measurement is 4 3/8 inch.

04 crate motor. 94 melling pick up tube from auto zone.

i did my best to compare the difference in the two tubes with these pictures below.

pretty much the same except the melling tube runs along the block further. also it takes a little bit of a dip down at the end. as shown in the pictures below.

It's hard to see a problem in the pictures. Have you spun the crank over to check clearance at the counterweights and rods?

well i am going to have to change the pickup tube. what i thought was a factory bird oil an is in fact a ford racing oil pan m-6675-d46. so i am going to have to use a different screen. only one they list that is compatible. with it is a high volume pump and screen (M-6600-D46). i hope they sell the screen separate. don't really want to change the pump but if i have to buy the kit i will save the pump for when i get to the rest of the build hopefully next winter. also if anyone has use the ford racing oil pan m-6675-d46 and know a pickup tube or screen which ever you want to call it that worked with it let me know.

edit... oh yea and i also correct in thinking the explorer oil pan will NOT work in the bird? thats its too deep?

As far as I know, only the bird/mark oil pan will clear our crossmember; none of the mustang pans will...

When I replaced the pump on my '94 Mark with the Cobra pump, the Cobra pump came with the correct I.D. tube. Only problem is, the Cobra tube didn't fit my Mark pan. Luckily I scored a proper hi-flow tube from Thomas A on markviii.org and now everything fits perfect.
IDK if the T-birds had the hi-flo pump from the factory or not. For instance: the early Marks had the lo-flo pump and the later years had the hi-flo pump. If some T-birds came factory with the hi-flo pump &pickup tube, you could try and find the correct tube used, it will fit both the pump and your pan. Or, like was said, the Mark pan will fit your car, you could run the hi-flo pump with the later pickup tube with a Mark pan. IIRC all year Marks had the same pan.
Hope this helps.
