going to change it out, do i need anything to put on the threads when i install the new one. gonna just change the computer sensor not gauge sensor, so the one on the left. still trying to solve rough idling, although it got somewhat better, am i wasting my time changing it or could that be the problem? what size wrench is it also if you know? thanks...

need some teflon tape wrap around it before putting it in.

as the wrench size it's either 5/8 or 11/16(forgot which one).

o crap... ok so i replaced the green one to the left and now my gauge doesnt read anything. i thought the one next to the thermostat is for the gauge the grey one? the one they gave me was black not green are both sensors the same or are they different? it looked the same connector wise but the metal at the bottom was more pointed on the new one.

Nope. Nearest to the thermostat is a switch type sensor. Its for your radiator fan, etc. The sensor furthest from the thermostat is the gauge.

ok now im really confused so the green one i replaced with a new black connector one is the one for the dash gauge? the gray one is the one i should have replaced that sends a signal to the ecu next to the thermostat? now my gauge doesnt work at all with the new sensor in. are both sensors the same?

lol Sorry, but again, nope. If you look at the plugs for each sensor you'll see that they differ slightly. If you managed to get the wrong plug in the wrong sensor you must have been pushing!

I have noticed that the sensors I got from O'Reilly's tended to be bad, while the Motorcraft sensors (I.E. higher priced) tended to work much better.

lol.. i looked right b4 u posted and indeed the new black sensor middle plastic piece is centered just like the gray one. the green one is off center. strange thing is the green old sensor i took out wont plug in gray connector yet the new black one does must have a little bigger opening. ok so i take out the black one and put that where the gray one is? and put my green one back in? man im wasting alot of coolant lol. thanks ill tell you how it goes gonna let it cool off for a few mins b4 i retry (ahhhhhhhhhhh).

for the second time i did mine i did not drain coolant its not need but first time i had to anyway bc i replaced my thermostat o-ring. just unscrew the sensors coolant wont come out as long as u pop the radiator cap. yea peel it off and put new thread seal on cover all the threads. looked like my old ones had rtv seal not teflon tape probably could use either.
