I've been saving and planning for an engine swap in my 97 4.6. I've read about the "p-1" heads and how they are supposed to be better and offer more power.
Here's the thing; I plan on letting my dealer do the engine change for me as I do not have the tools, patience or skill.

1. Can I specify the engine I want? I mean will they put a 97 spec engine in the car or are all the replacement engines of the newer more powerful variety?

2. This one is maybe for the dealer but while I'm here I might as well ask. Could I order the engine already equipped with "some" performance parts; like underdrive pulleys and the like?

Ford is so terrified of....

lawsuits that if the part wasn't put in on the assembly
line they ain't puting it in your car.

That means they'll only replace your engine with the
"same" one - the only changes would be ones that
affect durability, not performance.

I'm not exaggerating, Five Star won't even put in
different gears for my 'Bird that I bought from them.

Just to let you know, there called PI heads, not p-1.

so maybe.... i could convince them that a 99 GT engine would be more durable than the 96....

if the head service manager's pretty cool, who knows?
Maybe, just maybe, you can pull it off...how cool,
a dealer installed conversion. I'll be rooting for you...

because aside from dirtying up the MAF the K&N doesn't do a whole heck of a lot.
