I have a 2001 F150 with a 4.6 and 4r70w. The issue I'm having is the engine will sometimes stall when slowing to a stop and will also stall when manually selecting 2nd gear. Otherwise the trans works fine, good positive shifts and no noticeable slipping. I've tried disconnecting the TCC wire and noticed no change other than the converter not locking of course. There has'nt been any codes either and it's been doing this for a few days now. Any ideas, maybe a valve body issue???

I say TPS, possibly IAC... & wrong Forum Section for this Subject BTW.

I know it's a transmission issue so why is it in the wrong forum??? Brand new TPS and IAC and even tried the ones off my wife's Expedition. It without doubt is NOT a TPS or IAC issue...Thanks anyway....;)

There is a scenario where the Direct Drive Bushing & Assembly seizes up - Total Rebuild needed with Hard Parts to fix.

I've had a bad MAF sensor do the same thing.

There is a scenario where the Direct Drive Bushing & Assembly seizes up - Total Rebuild needed with Hard Parts to fix.

Seizing of the trans enough to cause engine to stall, yet trans performs normal under all other conditions. Interesting.

From the complaint you've described it is important to rule out all possibilities that it is not an engine mechanical, electrical, fuel management problem.

For example: low cylinder compression, weak spark, low fuel pressure, emission control problem.

To confirm trans malfunction described...

What is the idle rpm's at normal operating temp. Drive, and Low? Vehicle not moving.

Does the engine stall when in Park/Neutral, and rpm's are brought up, and quickly letting up off the gas?

Does the trans produce any abnormal sound when engine stalls?

Check trans fluid for low fluid level, dis-coloration, and smell at dipstick.
If dark color, and/or burnt smell, remove trans pan and check for metal particles /clutch material.
