Need a little help...
I have a 1995 thunderbird with a 3.8. Theres a Rod knocking in the motor so its time to swap.

I have access to a 2000 mustang 3.8 for next to nothing with 25,000 on it.

I would like to purchase that motor and upgrade the cam.

Will this motor fit into the Bird. Do I need to change the existing computer. And Im pretty sure the existing tranny will work.

Any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks in advanced

Since you have a 95 with a DIS in place, a 2000 3.8L ought to drop in. It is the same block. All your accessories will bolt up to it. Racecougar put a 2000 3.8L in his 94, but had to convert to a DIS since the 94 had a distributor.

Also, you'll get more HP from the 2000 engine. Enfoy!

He might not. I believe only the California cars had DIS.

DIS wasn't the norm until 96.

That's correct. Unless he has a California Emissions car, he doesn't have DIS. That means wither converting to DIS, or deleting/moving the EGR to clear a distributor.

There is a fair amount of info about this swap here on the site. I'd suggest searching for "splitport" and "splitport swap".

The engine will fit under the stock 94-95 Tbird hood, after modifying/making/moving a few brackets.
