O.k. I have read some info but some contradicts each other. Some say that the explorer short block can't handle supercharging and others say it will handle just as much as the gt. from what I can tell is that the block it self is the same as a cobra so the block it self is no problem. and all the internal parts are from the GT so it should be fine. I want to do the explorer swap with the plans to put a kenn bell 9 pound stile supercharger on it. I know that everyone will say get started then talk about the future but I want to make a plan and stick to it. I see allot of people start something change there plans or just don't finish because that decide they want something else. I'm asking everything I can think of now so I can stick to a plan.

But if it has the same internals as the GT then it should be o.k.if not why do I see these things on GT's with stock blocks? I don't mean to be dumb but I just don't see why I see mags throughing them on stock mustangs all the time. Would less psi be O.K. like 6? That can't be that bad 6 psi intercooled. That would still put out some good #'s. and if I go that rout I might go Allen (I thinking of going that line anyway) I emailed Kenne bell tech's and the read the first line and sent an email back saying thay don't offer explorer systems. when if they read it at all the second line asked if I should use a mustang motor and that do make a mustang kit. anyway maybe I'll get a hold of allen and get some info on what they think I should use.

I have been running 6 psi for 2 years now on my explorer but I have a very conservative tune. What it comes down to is there are no gaurantees. Some motors do just fine others have not. If you don't add forged internals just be prepared to replace or rebuild if yours doesn't hold up.

Have you ever considered the Allen Explorer kit as an alternative? It may not make quite as much peak power, but it will still give all the jam of the Kenne Bell at the bottom end and it’s cheaper to boot. Not to mention that you're going to have a hell of a time getting any technical support from Kenne Bell for any application other than a Mustang. To tell you the truth, I’d be surprised if they’d even sell it to you, knowing what it was for.

Yeah ok, one guy...he runs a lucky streak and then it's safe for everyone? No.

I disagree...you could have the very best tune in the world. Then one day you get gas and accidentally fill up with plus or regular. You go WOT and the car was tuned for 93 octane or higher. You have no KS and the engine knocks hard, chances are with 6-12 psi of boost you will hurt the engine.

Likewise, a fuel pump that craps out or a fuel pressure regulator that goes bad will leave you with a substantial bill.

No psi is SAFE with stock 4.6L hypereutectic pistons and the puny powdered metal connecting rods. I've seen NATURALLY ASPIRATED 4.6L engines with busted ring lands on the pistons, just from knocking or detonating.

The only way to be somewhat safe is to used forged pistons, forged rods, ARP studs, billet oil pump gears and a great tune. Forged parts are NOT indestructible either, but they will survive better if knock is present.

The blocks (iron or aluminum) are fine, with the power that he'll be making from an ALLEN SUPERCHARGER kit, both blocks are up to the task and then some.

Where did I say it was safe for everyone...or even safe for him for that matter? I just made a statement that I know of someone that runs a certain PSI on stock internals. He knows his time is limited on them and is planning a forged internal setup this spring.

In the end, 9psi is goin to be alittle more than you'd probably want on a stock block. Granted ALOT of it is in the tune, over time it'll show its wear.

oh and the only difference between the GT and explorer is the block material, cast iron vs aluminum

I agree with A-Train. Although I'm seeing more and more guys running 9psi with their KB kits that have thus far been rewarded with successful results, only time is going to tell on this one. Most of these owners have less than 15,000-miles on their ride and only drive them during the summer months under the best of weather conditions, which to me kind of shows a reckless attitude for these owners to be making comments with regards to their durability, when they themselves haven’t really put on enough miles to proved it. All it takes is one bad batch of gas and an enthusiastic right foot to bring the ride to an end. It's better to be safe, than sorry. If you can afford a blower like that, that will make those kinds of power levels, then you can surely afford to hold out a little longer until you the funds allow you to build the engine the way it needs to be, to take it.

I have to agree..After blowing two stock PI motors (ring lands) with 6psi I decieded to just go for it.

The explorer motor will last just as long as a GT motor as I believe teh internals are the same
