Hey folks,

I'm trying to research doing a cam swap into my '96 heads. I understand that PI cams will work in the 96-99 NPI heads, but I want to make sure that I really have the 96+ heads. The block and heads themselves are completely stock, but I know Ford had a few instances of using surplus parts throughout the model years.

Looking into the crankcase oil spout on the drivers side, the casting number starts with F1AE; to my understanding, F1AE is the '94-'95 casting which is utter crap. Am I looking in the wrong place?

After doing a search, it seems you can look on the underside of the head as well to determine the casting, but it's dark and I'm looking to make a purchase ASAP while I can get a good deal.

Cheers.

So the casting # through the oil fill spout could be anything, and the # on the exhaust side is the way to go. Thanks!

The F1AE you're seeing is on the cam tower cap,and is hasn't been changed sine the Romeo introduction in '91. Your car has F5AE heads.
