I'm glad TCCoA doesn't keep the truth away from the public about bad things our sponsors do. That was proven quite recently. Sir Will doesn't take crap.

I read through that whole topic. Towards the end, the trans guru gets a little taste of his own medicine when a customer criticized his work and he replied at first by trying to pass the blame on others. Very interesting info in there in between the nonsense.

And what did we learn ?

Heat Kills.
Screwing around with the EPC causing "Greater" then normal pressure.

Notice he sold the guy parts to build his own transmission not a built transmission.
If you sold someone pushrods for there motor and they bent them because of wrong rocker arm ratio would that be defective pushrods? The whole pressure plate is too thin thing is a load of BS. There was probably too much or too little clearance in the clutch pack.

The other expert who took the trans apart said that everything was installed correctly and "nothing was out of place". So, instead of one expert against a hot dog vendor, it becomes one trans expert vs another trans expert.

As I've mentioned before, I think the uneven wear happens due to excessive pressure. The aluminum piston distorts under this pressure causing the uneven wear. It just isn't the pressure plate, look at a built 4R70W where you don't even have pressure plates in the forward and direct cylinders, they don't wear this way.

And I don't do business with hotdog vendors either. Said hotdog vendors have even spent hours on the phone crying to certain people about what a big thorn I am in their side. :uppoint:

For what it's worth, I think the direct clutch was installed with too much endplay, and that caused it to not fully engage, which would generate a ton of heat, and this warped the pressure plate, not any issues with how much pressure it had or if the pressure plate is too weak. The part in question has been around for 25-30 years, (it goes into C-6s also) and I've never heard of anyone having a problem with them. It's thicker than the aluminium piston so that would have to bend before the steel pressure plate, and we're talking about a max line pressure in the tranny of 325 psi, which isn't anywhere near the pressure it takes to bend a .192 steel plate 7 inches in diameter. After the piston, the snap ring would have let go before the pressure plate. It really burns me when people trust a vendor to tell them the truth, but if they see a chance to take a dig at someone they will, even when they're just plain wrong. Either the guy who told him that knows better and was flat out lying about it, or he didn't know enough to know what he was saying was just crazy, and I'm not sure which answer distrubs me more. I've spent 23 years of my life building transmissions, I have an advanced degree in fluid mechanics and I pretty much know what I'm doing, but if I don't, I'll tell you so, and if someone else is building a good part, I'll tell you that too, I think the reputation I've spent years working on is enough to make it not worth my time and effort to lie about it just to make someone else look bad.

Just my two cents,

G
