well electric wouldn't use anything except what the alternator already puts out

The alternator does not put out any more power than is required to keep the electrical system around 13 volts. As the voltage/amperage load increases it takes more power to spin the alt.

Think of it this way: When you use one car to jump start another. The car that's running will stumble for a sec when you hook up the cables. (assuming you have good cables...) This is caused by the extra drain on the system.

All in all you're better off with an electric fan IMHO.
