Edit stock meaning modified rear but retaining the IRS set-up no solid axle swaps.Just curious.

Define "stock" for the purpose of this question.

Exactly. Example, there is one Bird I know of within 1/20 second of 9s running the stock IRS. Granted most use air bags in the springs and aftermarket bushings, but the IRS subframe and halfshafts remain the same.

You've got a boat load of engine combo's too if that matters? 3.8 SC, 4.6 2v, 4.6 4V, 5.0, or 5.0 stroked small block derivatives.

I know I've seen one car go 9's two years ago at the shootout on the IRS if I'm not mistaken. Chris Lazzo's car. I'm sure it went a 9.97 or so, built and stroked small block Ford. I also know that Dave Niebert's built small block is very near breaking into the 9's last I saw. As far as the 4.6's Mike Siska's Allen SC IRS car has run in the 10.3 range. I've seen a SC IRS car (Chris Vining) go down in the 10.7 range. I suppose there could be others out there we don't know about.

Yeah Lazzo and Neibert with their SBF's one centrifugal and one turbo. Neibert went a best of 10.04 so close to 9.

RobertP (4.6 2v) is in the 10's - 10.9 and 10.75
Kevin Leitem (3.8 SC) has run 10.1

My IRS is completely stock to the axles and bushings oem ford 4.6 not super coupe, just have lowering springs 10.75

So whats Supercoupe got to do with it? Its still stock MN12 stuff and its no stronger at the hubs than the standard MN12 stuff.

"Kevin isn't on IRS anymore"

Keith is correct. Kevins car has been a solid axle for several years. All the others listed at this point are factory style IRS.

Supercoupe is bigger axles, period ford put bigger axles for a reason just look at a cobra

Robert, You done went and lost your damned mind! The axle part is a bit heavier but it makes NO difference. Where it goes through the hub and where they break is at the hub, not the axle. The SC, LX, Lincoln Mark VIII are ALL the SAME where it breaks at the hub period and on the inside at the carrier as well.

You want me to send you the ones I've broken to prove it to you?? I've got a couple. Launching as hard as mine does (1.57 60ft) I've broken plenty of them. I'm sure some others on here know as well.

Let's not get all bent out of shape (no pun intended :D) over axles.

Beside the point I've got and cobra axle here that I broke and it's part way the splined and the axle part, I guess ford decided to waste money on metal

The actual shaft from the Inside knuckle to the outside end knuckle is larger in diameter on a SC. But the splined end of the halfshaft from that point is no different. They break at the hub, and not the shaft itself, knuckle to knuckle.

I will agree to disagree TM cause I know I'm right.

Now a Mustang IRS, not sure if the hub is splined the same or not, same diameter or what going through the hub assembly but I'm talking MN12/FN10's here. They may be different and maybe the parts don't interchange. I think the inside splines at the rear are certainly different.

That I'm NOT sure on. So I have no comment there.

Point is I'm running lx v8 axles not supercoupe or mark 8 axles enough said its stock oem stuff on my lx supercoupe would not be stock is the point

Ok, So tell me whats different about your stock IRS LX halfshafts than a Mark VIII IRS halfshaft. Do they/will they interchange swap to swap?? So I'm not putting a original stock Ford IRS halfshaft in my car out of a Mark VIII?

I broke the original ones in mine abut 9 years ago the first time. I've used salvage yards pulls in it since.

Mark 8 has fatter axles I'm sure they all fit just fine, I even put supercoupe axles in Hans car way back when I know they fit just fine but there a different part number, there the same as an auto supercoupe atleast the ones I have seen and the manual cars are even bigger

Some of the 5 speed SC cars came with a fatter right side shaft. But all the outer knuckles are the same spline count from t bird to mark to cobra. Which is where most break. You have to go to the driveshaft shop to get an upgraded outer hub with 33 splines. The terminators came with a 31 spline inner knuckle.
