I am aquiring a severly mangled front suspension 97 bird from a friend next week.

It was hit square on at the drivers side wheel

So What I was hoping for is a complete list of things I need. The power steering pump is bad so I know I'll need a new one of those.

While I'm replacing the drivers side I feel it would be best to do the passenger side as well. I'm talking about every piece up to the steering box.

Thus far I know I need:

power steering pump
shocks
springs
rotors
pads
upper control arm assemblys
lower control arm assemblys
power steering rack
tie rod ends

I know I'm missing a lot, but I need to know the names of every part and where to get them.

Also if you all would be so kind as to recommend which replacement parts companys are superior to others

I know some people have had horror storys with replacement parts.

Please help.

Thanks as always

Im ase certified in collision repair, heres my first thoughts. If the car took a hard hit to a front wheel, two things to check first are making sure the front main "rails"are straight and that the shock tower hasnt moved at all. that sheet metal is easy to move in an accident and hard to get back right again. you can measure diagonally from shock bolts to radiator support, side to side to see if the car is still square.

After that, you prolly need to swap everything under there, but you know that already. start with a good K member/engine cradle. the old one is most likely junk. you might be able to salvage some "soft" parts like calipers, springs, even control arms from the other side might still be good. good luck with the swap. sounds like youre gonna need it.

I checked measurements this morning and suprisingly its still in great shape, but all of the steering components are crap. A few pieces of hardware broke, and the drivers side control arms are definately done.

Chris,
I suspect that you'll need a new spindle and the strut rod as well. I did the entire front end in my bird. Let me know if you need any assistance.

Just be careful what you buy on ebay. I bought a set from ebay and one of the ball joints failed while my wife was driving it. The supposedly "sealed" unit sheared off right at the ball joint socket. Then come to find out that the ball joint is considerably smaller than the factory unit. So i saved some money in the first place but wound up replacing them all again anyway:(

interior or not ,helping is no big deal. I know my way around the front end of the bird pretty well. What i meant is if you need help identifying what you need, ill come look at the car.
Or would you rather i say "try a search"??:wiggle:
