My buddy works at a Citgo station in Plainwell, MI (SW Michigan) and he said that the manager at the station said the Hurricane wiped out an oil rig off the coast of Texas and gas will go up to $3.05 tomorrow.

If we take a 70 cent jump because of one oil rig being wiped out, then we are f*cked to begin with...

Well, if it doesn't, then no big deal. I had a half of a tank so I figured I'd gas up, even if it went up $0.15. He's usually right about the jumps in gas prices, but I agree, $0.70 is quite the hike.

IF it does take a big jump and you have to get gas while its that high, make sure you get a receipt so you can get your $$ back when the Attorney General sues them for price gouging. It happened around here after 9-11.

Yeah, I remember everyone thinking gas would go up after 9/11. People were lined up around the block, and all three stations in town went nearly dry. Regular unleaded never rose a penny.

yea that 9/11 gas thing never made any sense to me. people were like the world is going to end but 1 full tank of gas will save me.

the sad part is i specifically remember that day before on 9/10 coming home from work with my low fuel light on and thinking "aw ill just get gas tomorrow on my way into work".

On 9/11, gas around Kalamazoo, MI went up to around $3/gal on average...from about $1.50. Some places even went up to almost $5 a gal. Of course those $5/gal places got sued, but the average was around $3.

That's odd.. yours is going up, and ours went down :D It dropped 6 cents here in town yesterday to $2.19 :D

And yeah - most of the stations around here didn't budge on their prices, there was just long *** lines. Some stations in Omaha and south went up, but I don't remember to what.

HAHAHA, sorry I work in the oil fileds offshore and Ivan last year caused more damage then anything so far and gas prices were not affected that much. With Ivan there was a 90ft suge that lifted a jack up drilling rig off it's legs and did a lot of damage all the way around in the Main Pass, Viscal Knoll area. Dennis was a fart by comparison.

What makes GOM oil prices go up in the summer is that when ever a Tropical storm and up enters the gulf the boats stop running as the storm could be sevreal hundred miles away but the seas are just to rough. An exampal is that during Dennis my boat in Pasagaoula MS stood by on Sunday. If it becomes a hurrican and they see that is heading this way they shut in everything and evac.
