I host everything through PowWeb (http://www.powweb.com). They have one all-purpose package to suit everyone's needs (1GB storage, 65GB monthly transfer, PHP, MySQL, SSI, CGI, CRON, multiple FTP accounts, multiple email accounts) for only $7.77/month.

Aside from the great services, there are two things I've found that really sets them apart...

You can park as many domains as you want on one account by just paying a one-time $25 setup fee every time you want to park one (and the cost of registering the name). This way, you can have all the sites you want on one account for $7.77/month instead of having to pay for a new account for each site. You have full control over .htaccess of your account, so you can set up subdomains (free) or new domains (after you pay the parking fee for the domain).

AND - there's a huge online community of PowWeb customers...it's a limitless resource of knowledge and help, either for simply getting setup, or for more advanced stuff like server-side scripting, database, or secure protocol.

Yep, I sound like a commercial. That's what happens when a company does a good job of taking care of their customers.

Here is what I recommend. 1and1.net is excellent for something if you aren't totally comitted to it sticking around. I know the promotion says free for 3 years, and it is a excellent offer, but it may not last. As they say "If it soulds too good to be true..."

For paid hosting I use www.glowhost.com and have had excellent customer service, and they have great uptimes. A lot of freebies thrown in as well.

http://www.midwestthundercats.com is hosted at GH and
http://www.midwestthundercats.net is hosted with 1and1

I rely on the .com domain for our main site and all of my database traffic, and the .net domain servers member pages, e-mail service, and web storage.

Had good luck with both, just still a little leery at the whole 3 year free deal for that kind of featureset
