I found this through a link -> link -> link, etc. This article and testing shows how much an X pipe outperforms an H pipe and compares different mufflers, pipe sizes, even location of mufflers as to performance and noise. They also point out how fast the exhaust cools going down your system and in doing so, requires less muffler and less pipe to achieve same results. I found the article informative and interesting; hopefully you all will too:

Too bad they didn't have some Borlas to test with, I'm sure they would have performed impressively in these tests.

borla's were listed in the figures in that link.

Oh...*duh* Anyways, what did you think? Pretty good info, eh? It never occurred to me how much placement of the muffler would matter (outside of different sound) as to airflow. Never gave it much thought...

That article has been on the FVC forums for years.

One of the biggest reasons the exhaust on my '93 Mark VIII is what it is.

Kooks headers, dual 2-1/2", single-X crossover, Hooker Maximum Flow Mufflers and dual electric cut-outs. My exhaust shop couldn't get the Borla XS mufflers, so after a bit of research we went with the Hookers.
