I have a 95 SC.

I'm getting a grinding noise from the right front. Worst at slow speeds when braking and turning. At regular driving speeds, you don't hear it. Nothing is dragging under the car.

I noticed the rubber boot around the upper ball joint is ripped.

Last year, I had the car aligned and the left upper control arm bushings and ball joint were bad. The Ford dealer replaced the upper control arm, aligned the car and all was well. It did not make any grinding noises.

Tomorrow, I plan to pull the wheel off and take a look. It does make noise as the suspension loads and unloads (get in and out of the car, push down on the front RH corner etc).

Any thoughts what I may find, or what I should look for?

The dealer charged me ~$400 to replace the LH upper control arm with OEM parts and align the car. Hopefully I'm looking at the same this time, as I just sold my spare vehicle!

Noise

Worn/damaged Ball joints, tie rod ends, suspension bushings causing metal to metal contact?

You can do upper ball joints for far less than $400. You should be able to do it under $100, more if you get if aligned. To test it get the car in the air and grab the top and bottom of the wheel and see if it moves. If it does, its a ball joint, have somebody look to see which one. They are not all that difficult to change, I will be changing mine soon. BTW, Ford OE parts are not any better than a TRW part at Advance, the OE ones actually say TRW on them. They come with a lifetime warrantee whereas the Ford ones won't.

thanks for the insight. The dealer is looking at the car tomorrow.

I know I can change it for less myself, but my wife is due in less than 3 weeks, and I have about 600 square feet of flooring left to put down in my house before then along with 10 million other things - sometimes you've got to let someone else do it :)
