I just put in a '02 GT trans. The only forward gear I have is second and the OD light is blinking. I did repin the tranny the corect way (the pins aren't backing out), switched out the TCC (and trimmed the little plastic piece). Now I didn't repin the MPLS, I just swapped it w/ the Tbird one. I didn't change the shift lever. Now did the Tbird and GT have the same throw lengths? With the car off, I'll run thru the gears, it will go to park, but not first. Re-adjust, it will go to first, but not park. I have to swith the shift lever out don't I?

I just replaced the shift lever with the Tbird's. I'm still getting the blinking OD light. Fluid level is fine. I'm running out of options. Any ideas on what my second gear problem could be?

If it helps any, I just swapped in an '02 Explorer engine, I'm thinking that I might have messed up on one or two of the sensors (temp), and I feel that is where I'm getting the check engine light from.

Just a thought, but my parents Dodge intrepid recently had a similar symptom where neutral and reverse worked but the car would only use 2nd gear forward. The speedo was also nonfunctional.

The problem there was the transmission speed output sensor was out. There is one on either side of the transmission. The speedo is read off the after transmission one there. Anywho, point is that 2nd gear was limp home mode. Maybe your problem is something similar?

You will need to swap not only the MLPS sensor, but also the lever that it bolts onto. At least, I had to for my swap (99 CV tranny), I don't think that there's any difference.

One more thing--did you change the TCC solenoid in the 01 GT tranny to one from a 94 t-bird tranny? If you didn't, don't drive the car at all until you switch that solenoid. You can fry your EEC with the incorrect one.

make sure you use the pin change information from modulardepot not the one in tccoa.

The reason why I didn't switch the MLPS is because the trans. is an 02. Didn't they switch to digital in 98? I did switch out the TCC, and I did print out the PDF file from modulardepot and used it. I also swapped out the speedo gear and a sensor that is near the tail housing. What is that sensor? Could that be it?

Did you have the valvebody out? If so, make sure the valve in the VB the shifter engages is in the first detent from the end. And if the only gear you have is second, check the connector. The car defaults to 2nd gear when there is no power to the shift solenoids.

I left the VB in when I switched over the TCC. I don't know enough AODE transmission, yet. Just wanted to get the car moving again w/ minimal changes. Planned on doing the J-mod once I read more about it. When I changed the shift lever last night, I made sure (had a second set of hands and eyes helping me) that it went back in the way it was.

I didn't end up using the GT torque converter. I ordered the wrong flywheel and was in a time crunch (still am) so I put the Tbird flywheel and TC in. I didn't feel that this makes a difference (beside performance).

So you're saying that you left the GT MLPS on the trans? You need to put the T-Bird MLPS on the new trans. Also, you can either repin the connector, or swap over ALL the electronics from the MN12 trans to the GT one, but don't do both. If you choose to repin the connector, only swap the MLPS and TCC solenoid. The other parts can stay as-is. Also, you don't repin the MLPS, you repin the valve body harness, the one that has the leads to the TOT sensor, shift solenoids, EPC solenoid, etc I'm sure you figured that out due to the fact that you printed the PDF file out, but I'm saying this just in case...

That's your output shaft speed sensor, aka OSS sensor.
